Won’t clog up this thread with non transfer window questions but I just wanna know how good was Joey? Was practically idolised by my uncle and the one player I wish I was around to see.

If Jamie brooks hadn't got Ill and had his career cut short would he have been better than Joey I know arsenal were looking at JB

Anyway back on topic that's a good signing for Blackpool someone I wish we had went for

Can tell the bond between Joey and the fans was strong. Was at the Cambridge game (The Joey memorial one) and I was fighting tears myself, despite never seeing him play.

It's funny what he does ton the soul of an Oxford fan that was fortunate enough to see him play.

The noise, negativity, worries and anxieties about the club (at whatever period) are instantly removed when reminiscing at the thoughts of his footballing abilities and bond with the club and fans.

He was special. And one of our own.

He personified the emotional impact a football club can have on a person's life.

I miss him. He was the very reason I fell in love with Oxford United.

They just don't make them like they used to

Thats the crux of it. If the budget the size of last season, why has there not been better use of it?
The window started like an episode of supermarket sweep, the slowed down to clown pace, just as the players in specific places were needed
I dont doubt there is a reasonable budget, but the size of last season?

Making better use of the budget is not just about spending money. There wasn't a single poster (your Internet must have been down!) that was moaning about Rodrigues coming in on a free. Aside from you and your shiny happy posts, I'm yet to see anyone who isn't excited about Stan Mills despite him being on loan.

Swapping Findlay for Thorniley was seen as a good move for all parties (until a few rants after 2 games). Woltman is seen as a return to the development model that has worked so well for us recently, and arguably has a bigger ceiling than any of the gems we've unearthed before.

The use of our budget has been exceptional to date, and leaves us with plenty in the pot to spend on the right players, and I have every confidence that we'll see just how big our budget is in the next week or two.

But I suspect that we could spend millions and you'd still find something to moan about!

Beauchamp was a good player and rightfully a bit of a hero but I think some of the players from the mid 80s are better. Definitely Houghton and even Kevin Brock who was bit underrated but won the Euro u21 championship as a third division player.
It's the bond he had with the club that make him stand out from the rest.

Just an Oxford boy living out his dream.

Beautifully put. It’s stuff like this that makes me proud to support this club.
