Ex-Staff Liam Manning

Wycombe fan here. I have been impressed with Manning since he was at MK Dons, and I am not surprised what he is accomplishing with you with a summer under his belt (well, maybe a little surprised - I had you more as a threat for playoffs than autos). I think he is part of a new breed of young British managers coming through that have a more nuanced, almost continental approach compared to the Pardews and Allardyces of yesteryear. If he stays, I think you might be the Plymouth of this season, where everyone keeps expecting you to fall away because you are not Bolton/Barnsley/Derby, without realizing that you are there to stay until it is too late. It would be a shame for you if he left in the middle of what could be a memorable season. It feels like there should be a manager transfer window just like with players, so lower league teams flying along don't get pilfered at really odd times right when things are going well. I know we don't always like each other, but in lower league solidarity I hate it when L1 and L2 clubs get derailed by the entitled above us.

Just been reading the comments as to why Pearson was sacked at Bristol City and it doesn’t make for good reading e.g. chairman questioning the amount of time players had off during international breaks, and whether that put them at risk of injury, especially with the apparent high injury list, so not sure if Manning would want to go into that environment!! Also, their fans don’t appear happy with their chairman’s decision too. Also got rid of the medical coach too!!

They are guessing from other posts and general social media leaks, the same as anyone could do.

EC Yellow used to be a prime source of info on transfers in particular, but since certain personnel left that hasn‘t been the case. The other day EC said anything on the subject was just their own view with no evidence to back it up.

Tatabanya had one piece of info re Rodrigues which may or may not have been genuine inside info but nothing else credible on any other transfer. If they genuinely know something then they should elaborate and not give the odd 😮 or similar reply to make out they know something. We could all do that and pretend to be ITK. Your bound to be right on occasions, based on the law of averages.

Current Skybet odds have LM as 2nd favourite, most of that is from reading Forum threads as was the Ox Mail’s article the other day. It’s not to say LM may not go to BC, he could well be in the frame, but if it was absolutely certain right now then no odds would be offered on him by any bookmaker.

I hope any rumours are wrong as he’s doing a great job here, but realistically any club at a higher level would be taking a real punt on someone with one good season at MK and about a dozen really decent performances from Oxford in about 30 games here.

I hope he stays with us for a long time as those decent performances are becoming more consistent, and he is building a great team here on and off the pitch, and longer term we could actually be a better proposition than BC in a few years time if the backing of our club from the owners remains in place and continues to increase.
Is Chippy ITK on who’s ITK now? Jury’s out

“Former Leeds United Coach” is doing some heavy lifting there.
What was the adage? Something about having a lettuce in the fridge that lasted longer.
30 days, 4 games, 1 point from 12 points, for 4, against 12.
He got the job based on knowing Allardyce and he was available as he’d been sacked.

Thanks. I agree with your comments about managers. They should be held under the same rules, unless they leave under a mutual agreement. In which case they cannot move into a new managerial role until the season ends.

I didn't hear anyone calling for this 8 months ago... Be careful what you wish for.

We would be enjoying life in league two if this had been a rule last season.
Not necessarily
If the same rule applied to managers as it does players it would mean any manager out of work and not involved with any other club would be able to get a job.
In fact wasn’t Liam Manning out of work when he joined us
What I think the original poster is saying is that if you want a manager from another club it has to be done in the transfer window

Ignoring the fact you can't do the same with managers as you do with players (you don't transfer players as such, you transfer their playing registration), all that would happen in real terms would be that, taking BC and Manning as an example, BC sack their manager in late October, they reach an agreement with Manning to take over in January if he is the preferred target, and given that knowledge what incentive is there for OUFC to hold onto him until January and the window opens? We would be better off moving him on, getting in our new manager and giving him a month to assess then the transfer window to adjust.

I just don't see how a system similar to players could possibly work for managers.

I'm ITK ,that the people ITK, don't know who's ITK. SO all I know, who knows 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Prediction.

Manning will still be at OUFC come the weekend.

Robinson will be the new Bristol Rovers manager.

I’m definitely not ITK,

If Manning chooses not to leave for Bristol City, it will be no more than a stop gap until the next Championship club comes along and takes an interest.

We have a live one in LM and his stock is rising all the time and he is getting increased exposure from national media outlets. You can almost disregard the results and look more at his approach to coaching and management. His style and demeanour is very much in vogue and I’d go as far as saying that I’d not be at all surprised to see him leave before the season is finished.

I don’t think his experience at MK will have helped our chances of keeping hold of him as well. I hope he sticks around for a bit longer and holds out for a club with a chance of achieving something.

Would you be surprised if he sees the season out at Oxford United?
