Indeed - Fleetwood didn’t lose today.Great win!
MASSIVE, HUGE credit to Des and the lads for turning things around so well in the last two games, and putting it back in our own hands again.
OK, some will say it's only Fleetwood and Burton, both awful relegation fodder, but the manner in which we've despatched them both is very encouraging.
Fingers crossed the injuries are nothing serious...
FT - Burton 2-3 Oxford
FT - Reading 1-1 Lincoln
5pm, crack the beers open. Wembley is on.
It really is. They are ruthlessly efficient or lucky depending perspectiveIts a usual type of stat for them.
Its also an unfamiliar formation for other teams to play against.I agree, I really like this 4-1-2-3 that he’s playing now and I hope we don’t stop doing it against the better sides. It seems very attacking but actually it’s not as much as you think as the fullbacks don’t bomb on as much so you still have 3-5 defensive players back. I don’t think 4-2-3-1 works when your fullbacks don’t bomb on so let’s keep doing what we’re doing and attack the better sides just as much!
If we get Bolton in the play offs I'll be waking up in hot sweats.
What is she, a St.Bernard? You are Michael Gove and I claim my £5.
Just got home, beer and wine open, sending the Mrs for brandy.
Ouch!Did you notice that when Cam went off, Des called Rodrigues over to give instructions to pass on to others. Seems a strange thing to do with a player that had downed tools and didn't want the manager around?
Of course, the 6 months of not playing for the manager might have miraculously changed overnight and they might be best buddies now. Or it might have been a load of old shite in the first place?
Who knows?!
We could. If Cam was fit.Fantastic result and two back to back 4-0’s is a great achievement. Not really had time today to follow the match but I assume we were good value as that’s an emphatic scoreline. Credit to Des and credit to the players for turning in some top performances at a very timely stage. Bigger tests await but we couldn’t be going into three massive home games in better shape.
If we somehow go up, count this as the weirdest OUFC season i've ever seen!Don’t worry pal. Bolton will finish 2nd. We’ll do Derby over 2 legs in the semis and get revenge on Barnsley for the JPT in the final.
What did you think of Lincoln compared to us?I watched the last half hour of Lincoln Reading. Reading genuinely unlucky not to win, Lincoln going ahead had all the look of a team flying on confidence and things falling for them. Reading equaliser well deserved and Lincoln didn’t have another sniff after that goal. Really feel like a bump to their confidence will see their winning streak fall away, seems like they’ve been coasting on that intangible ‘run of good form’ at the moment.
That said, and I hate to P**s on any parades, but we should temper the enthusiasm of the last few performances with the acknowledgement that we have had probably the kindest possible run of fixtures since the Bolton game. Some of the worst teams I’ve seen at this level, all in a row. Yes, you can only beat what’s put in front of you, but we shouldn’t get carried away by seeing off these and Fleetwood comfortably. I still have a horrible feeling those 5 dropped points to Shrews and Northampton (H&A) could cost us.
I’m still very apprehensive about this ‘Cam as the only CM’ formation, and think it will get found out against better sides. That becomes especially pertinent if Cam is out for any period of time - we basically won’t have a midfield. Murphy and Dale can skin the inferior fullbacks of this league , but I’d be very surprised if they get as much joy against the likes of Burrows next week. There’s still a long way to go, and we need to show we can do it against the relegation nailed-ons of league one.
That said, it’s important to recognise what a turnaround we’ve had this season. We’ll likely hit at least 74 points, which, as we know from that famous lockdown thread, would typically see you in the playoffs in any given year. That probably won’t be enough this year, but already 70 points is an enormous turnaround from where we were this time 12 months ago. The green shoots of the Des reign are certainly there. Let’s see how far a resurgent Dale, Murphy and Sparky can take us in the next 4 games.
COYY
I thought Dale was very subdued myself, Murphy and Harris though were fantastic.Front 3 players were immense
I think he said the first half but a lot better in the 2nd halfBest performance under Des that. Front 3 players were immense and we could of scored more than 4. Defence was rock solid and Cumming looked a lot better. I actually see a style of play Des is trying to execute with fast wingers and playing on the counter.
Not sure what game one of the callers to radio Oxford was watching but that was certainly not a boring game.
