Matches The League 1 Promotion Run In

As it stands we're 4 points behind both Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland with both having a game in hand on us, Plymouth are 6 points clear. Wycombe 4 points ahead of us with the same amount of games played. With only 3 games left to play for us it's going to take an almighty swing for us to reach the play offs.
Surely most of us have accepted its a very long shot now - and Plymouth must be beginning to worry too

Time for Gavin Whyte to start swinging then !!!

Sky just said a stat..

First time MK Dons have conceded more than 1 goal in a game since Boxing Day..

They play attacking exciting football as well..

There’s the difference right there.

Among all the negative yelling at last a very good point

Anyone who still thinks we can make the playoffs are quite frankly kidding themselves.

We blew it at Plymouth and Morecambe, and the at home to Sunderland.

Sheff Wed will win the playoffs, and we are the only one’s to have doubled them.
The only team I think are also hitting form and know how to get wins are high Wycombe as much as I hate to say it . Hope they don't get into the play offs though

Yep. In that exact same period, we have conceded more than 1 a whopping 12 times.

It was all over after Sunderland. On to next season with a lot of departures over the summer.

I don’t disagree. But at the end of the day, they are as likely to be in the same division as us next season as they are in the championship.

It’s the same as Plymouth. People raves about them last week and how Robinson needed to learn from their manager. Yet their issue is the same as ours (beating the better sides).

I think people need to realise that this league is pretty good, and will be hard to get out of. Defending better will help, but doesn’t guarantee promotion

We can get a maximum of 81 points. This means that we need two of Wycombe, Sunderland or Wednesday to only gain 5 points (assuming we'd have a greater goal difference at the end).

That means either/both Wednesday or Sunderland need to draw 2, lose 1 and win 1, on top of Wycombe also drawing 2 and winning one. Or alternatively, only one of these teams does this and Plymouth to get no more than 3 points from 3 of their remaining games.

Crazy to think that usually 75 points gets you playoffs, and this year 81 points likely won't be enough. It would take some almighty shift in form from said teams for us to have a sniff. But crazy things happen in football sometimes...

Bookies currently have us at 8/1 to get top 6 and 40/1 for promotion.

Yep. We’ve needed some favours for some time and we haven’t got them. The relentlessness of the teams winning at the top has meant that mediocre form sees you fall behind pretty quickly. Rotherham looked set for promotion but have been reeled in too. We haven’t kept pace, sadly.

We snuck in the playoffs on 74 points last year. We’re on 72 now so should hopefully go past that total with three games to play (although I can only see us picking up three points against Doncaster). It felt over after Sunderland in all honesty.

Surely the best result in the Plymouth v Sunderland game is the draw ? Two points on us as opposed to three and that would also keep both just about within range and the more teams we have a chance of catching the better. Given Plymouth‘s run in I’d agree that if there had to be a winner better it be Sunderland.
Not really no. We're better off with a couple of sides struggling and let the others go. No sharing out the points. A point apiece in these games keeps them all ticking over and probably all out of reach in the end. What we want is a top 5 all on 83+ but 2 others to struggle beyond 76-78. What we dont want is everyone on 80 or 82 and us finishing on 79 or 81 respectively.
Every point for Plymouth now edges them further away. Sunderland should comfortably be out of sight anyway with the games they have.
Before the Wednesday game last night they were 2nd behind Wycombe as our most catchable. They've now jumped behind both Plymouth and Sunderland.
Best bet for us now remains Wycombe, and now marginally Plymouth over Sunderland. A winner in that game effectively takes the winner away from us and we need the loser to drop further points. At this point I'd say that looks more likely to be Plymouth.

Our percentage chance of play-offs was 8% post-Sunderland. It grew to 9% when Rotherham lost to Pompey, fell back to 8% on Friday despite our win, 7% after Rotherham beat Ipswich, and now 6% post Wednesday win last night.
Good win for us aside, results going against us.
However, slight glimmer would be if Plymouth lose tomorrow and Wycombe also fail to win. That could see us up a few percentage points and a win for us on Tuesday and we could be back in double figures!
