Home Match Day Thread +++ 10/02/18 OUFC V BRISTOL ROVERS MATCH THREAD +++

Where was the midfield? Not sure one up front works at home. And where was Buckley-Ricketts in the second half? Yet again nothing on the wing

WE will be in League One next season, and in all liklihood will be mathematically certain of that fact a number of weeks before the end of the season..

Boring but true!

Can't believe how poor we were at getting to the second ball (and the first) Just constantly from the second minute absolutely second to every single loose ball, Wes was pathetic and the midfield was lightweight as it comes

Big changes needed for Tuesday

Never want to see Mousinho play for us again

Lot of talk on the radio saying about our strikers and why we didn’t get any in the transfer window.......just saying

Reasonable first half which was pretty even, thought we defended ok restricting Rovers to long range efforts on the whole.

Second half was disappointing, you could see we were going to concede. Too much pressure on the defence.

Time for Mousinho to have a break and bring in Dickie. I’d rest Ruffels too.

I liked the look of the new leftback Smith-Brown? Bit disappointed to be honest without Todd Kane, but it’s early days.

I would also play Dickie in the future. I understand the argument of introducing him into a more settled defence, but our defence hasn't been settled for ages and who knows when it will be, so give Mous a break and play the lad. Also really looking forward to Brannagan playing soon.

To me Thomas plays like a player who has been injured a lot in his career. It may just be subconsciously on his part at times, but that's definitely how I felt watching him today. Bottled a challenge of two and just tried to let the ball run through to him, rather than trying to impact play and actually win it.

As others have said, decent first-half and disappointing second.

Three things cost us that day today.
1. 2 man midfield
2. Lapse of concentration
3. Lack of creativity

You should never play a 2 man midfield against a 3. Mowatt was playing in behind Wes which left Ruffels and Ledson exposed and overrun and once they tired Rovers controlled the game.

Concentration was dodgy at the back. Although i think the ref made some decisions that were wrong today they all came from players losing concentration. Forexample the free kick for equaliser was a very kind free kick to give considering the ball was won but it was avoidable and we shouldn't make the ref have to make these decisions.

The final thing that cost us was our only way of playing was 1 ball forward and pass across the box for a shot. We had nobody who could unlock that defence.

We're lucky we have the likes of Rochdale and Oldham left to play at home thats for sure.

Don’t listen to fucktards on the phone in . Just saying [emoji6]. Again it was our defence that cost us today not our strike force
Agree about the fucktards, but it was the midfield that cost us

The midfield put us on the back foot. But that was because Wes was holding nothing up and we still kept trying to play it up to him. We should have took him off and relied on the wings like at Charlton, pulling mowatt or rothwell back into a 3 and sticking silva down the left. Faz was as inflexible in his tactics as pep. No plan b ,just swap like for like and hope for the best when it was clear what was happening. That’s still not why we lost , the defence was poor, mous makes more mistakes than Diane Abbott. Martin is constantly the wrong side of his man, and Bristol enjoyed free header after free header unmarked in our box. They even f*****g managed to run into each other going for the same ball. Arron martin was voted player of the month, that’s sums up our January

Forgotten the Bury game already?...

Good bad and ugly from us today.

The injection of younger players in the team and some of the play in the first half was more like the team from last season.

The bad and ugly. Even though I thought moushino and Martin did a lot of good things we simply will not progress or be consistent when they give so many opportunities to the opposition each game. Diabolical defending at times, they got away with it the first half but not the second.

We are going to have to be patient this season and watch the team go through the motions until May. Clean slate in the summer and start again.

Today was a real wake-up call - for me in particular. I’ve been sucked in enough to be receptive to all these left field names as potential manager candidates partly because I was won over by last weeks passionate performance. Today showed glaring problems with the make up of the squad. We’ve got some good young players but they are being exposed. I’m not panicking about relegation but I now realise we need a PROPER manager in asap and need to start acting like a PROPER football club. Let’s identify who we need, go get him - not some inexperienced ‘name’, get passed 50 points as quick as possible and then start planning for a more cohesive campaign next season.

I have to agree about the comments on Mousinho. It’s good to have his experience in there with young players around him but he scares the crap out of me every time the ball goes in our box. Our lack of forward options is also a big worry. There’s lots for our new manager to sort out when he finally arrives.

We were better with no recognised striker last week. Maybe it's something to think about as it removes the temptation to keep passing it to the front man to hold up and gives you an extra midfielder technically. Which is what we needed today,

Was Mousinho at fault?

I actually think he intercepts more than Martin! I’d definitely start Dickie with Mousinho.

His defensive performance today if I'm being polite was sub standard. His marking for the 2nd was poor, his clearances were poor, he was out muscled by Harrison 9 times out 10.

Martin was not much better maybe just as bad. If we had the players I would drop both.

No idea what dickie is like but out of principle they should both be dropped as they have been consistently poor in the sense that either one of them as been directly responsible for a large amount of goals we have conceded.

We can see now just how good Nelson is, they both are no where near his standard.
