Home Match Day Thread +++ 10/02/18 OUFC V BRISTOL ROVERS MATCH THREAD +++

One thing that frustrated me today was every cross was floated even when players we're by the byline. Surely cross low and hard and hope for deflection or somebody getting on end of it. Happend 3 or 4 times today.

So u think Arron martin or mous is good enough ?

I actually think Mousinho is a good player, but at home loses confidence because as soon as he makes a mistake the crowd are in his back.

He has composure, and hangs onto the ball too long at times which isn’t good, but I think he does this because he doesn’t just want to hoof it which I prefer.

Just don’t rate Martin at all.

Nor do I, but I’m struggling to remember a game where mous did much better. He’s made the same basic errors in every game. And that’s not just him getting rid of it, but basic marking, u watch him on crosses and corners he losses his man everytime. Their no 9 did it to him countless times today. Let mous get close, drop the shoulder , turn and u have lost him. Basic defending. I thought to start with we had a great signing, but u can see why burton got rid. There’s not much difference between him for pace with Jake wright. But Wright’s positioning, tackling and general ability under pressure is way above both of them.

We barely did any of the things we did well last week. We didn’t move the ball as quick and didn’t play with as much width and movement.

Mousinho has been very error prone lately, but I think it’s obvious he’s rushing at times. The baying crowd can’t help matters. That said, he’s still a much better player than Martin. I’d like to see him partnered with Dickie instead.

No idea how Mowatt got motm, I thought he was poor again. Aside from a few glimpses here and there, he’s been a massive disappointment to me. He just doesn’t seem to add anything to the team.

Thought having a midfield two of Ledson and Ruffels hindered us again. I think it has to be one or the other alongside more of a ball playing midfielder. Hopefully Brannagan is back sooner rather than later.

Overall, a shame not to carry on the momentum from last week’s result, but it’s not as tragic as some people seem to be making out. Hopefully we can return to winning ways on Tuesday.

Don’t listen to fucktards on the phone in . Just saying [emoji6]. Again it was our defence that cost us today not our strike force
And I know our CB’s well Mousinho any way was very poor he needs to be dropped but those fucktards as you call them and there are a few of those thousand fucktards are right we do
Need a striker or two simple, but we can wait to see what division we will be in next season to try and find the right caliber of striker

U could have played Harry Kane up front today he wouldn’t have done much better. The tactic of hitting to the striker with his back to goal just didn’t work. Wes is a poacher and we didn’t give him 1 ball in the box to attack. We were however 1-0 up. Keep a clean sheet and we win that game even without a striker. We’ve gone from having one of the best defensive records in the league to one of the worst. Everyone knows we need a new striker baz, we get it honestly. We made very large offers for two very good ones, it didn’t happen. And right now it doesn’t matter what league we will be in, we still can’t sign one. We can quite easily make changes the will sort this defence out

Moshino was dreadful today .. but we lost this game by trying to combat their strengths ...why oh why did we play one up top ? It didn't work for pep and faz does the same . We scored through their mistake . Though a good finish . I didn't buy the big hope after the Charlton game as they are very like us , knocking the ball about . Rovers bartered us without playing well themselves. Nappa and Henry should of both been on the pitch to start . I'm praying we get a manager this week so he has a time to sort it out .

First 5 mins we played, then we switched off. Pathetic of we think we can go 1 up and expect to win.

There was a rumour doing the rounds in the stand today, so you never know

Am I right in thinking that Martin is out of contract at the end of this season, and Raglan is contracted until us till the end of 2018/2019 season? Is that correct?

If that is right then it would seem that we are putting Raglan in the shop window to get him off next years wage list. In the meantime Martin gets game time.

Neither are good enough for a top half div 1 team.

Oh for a Matt Elliott and Andy Crosby partnership, know it never happened but with quick full backs that would have been a great partnership!

To many mistakes by experienced players, to many kids on the field, no pace at the centre backs, no second ball wins, nobody up front who can play football like there number 9, nobody on the pitch like there number 26, no idea on subs, basically no direction right from the boardroom to the pitch.

There is no way they can charge more for season tickets next year with what we have watched this season.
Definitely agree about the two Rovers players

I was busy this afternoon. Logged in to watch the match. 1st time our one of our defenders sliced a clearance for a corner from the 18 yard box. Turned off. Logged in. Rovers equalised. Turned off. Logged in rovers scored. Turned off. Blame me for our loss.

Thank goodness you didn't log in again or you'd have wiped out our positive goal difference! :D

Weirdly that also describes mousinho’s afternoon

After getting thrashed in the 2nd half today by a mediocre team, I’m looking forward to the new manager ‘bounce’ that should easily see us safe.

So Rothwell thinks it might have been better to not go one up in the second minute. What is he on? Either I am mad or he is. Tried to defend for eighty eighty minutes. A truly dreadful performance all round. It even spread to Eastwood with his clearances. I am still in shock.

Well that was 'disappointing'.

An early goal and we played OK for half an hour. After that it was simply case of when Rovers would equalise and whether we could avoid losing.

We barely got out of our own half in the second half - the passing went from being on the floor to silly little balls in the air all the time. What was that about? The midfield completely disappeared - not tackling, not even challenging for the ball much of the time. You can blame the centre backs all you want (and they weren't brilliant) but with such an ineffective midfield in front of them they were under constant pressure for virtually all of the second half. Thomas was completely useless, obviously not fit and being asked to play that role that he has failed to fill all season. He can't hold the ball up - he is a poacher. That's what he does - he does it well but don't expect anything else at all from him. Would Mehmeti have been a better option? Or no striker at all? Who knows - but it was obvious Thomas wasn't in the game from as early as 20 minutes in and Faz ought to have done something about it. I can't really think of one player in yellow to single out for praise today.

IMO Faz has to take the bull by the horns. If we need to play three in central midfield to try to control a game then that's what he must do - put one of the defenders in there if needs be. If DIckie is better than either of the existing central defenders, then put him in. If Thomas/Obika aren't fit then try something else - maybe James Henry up front?

I didn't bother with the Chelsea kids match and missed the dramatic last gasp win at Charlton, so this was my first game after Bury. I'd say the second half today was equally as bad as that game. Worrying.

I wish mehmeti had come on 10mins earlier as Thomas’ legs were gone and we needed to get at them. From seeing him so far I don’t think he’s the answer, but we are in need of the ball sticking up top.

Midfield second to everything all game. You can’t expect to win if that’s the case.
