Ex Player Josh Ruffels

He isn’t a championship level left back, not unless he improves dramatically, but he is a decent lad who will chip in with a few goals. In all honesty the only way I could see him being a success at championship level is as a left wing back, the defensive side of his game is that lacking (he started out as a midfielder and didn’t make the move to left back until a few seasons back).

Shows the amount of money in the championship when they can afford to blow us out of the water in contract terms for (what will be to them) a reserve left back.

Feel a bit bad being so harsh about him as he has been a good servant here, sort of came through from youth level and has earned respect for what he has achieved, hope he proves me wrong and does well wherever he goes (unless it’s Reading).
No transfer fee so it’ll be all wages and he won’t be a top earner for Town.

Even without a transfer fee, which always leads to a decent signing on fee, he will be earning wages most league one players can only dream of on a 4 year deal, not like he has ever been a stand out player at this level.

The thing that highlights Ruffels way beyond a average/solid 6 out of 10 left back is his goals and assists.we basically play with our full backs very much as a big part of our attacking play.If Huddersfield or Forest don’t play that way then you are essentially taking away Ruffels main highlighting point.

Footballs to us supporters is all about opinions, and self interest.
He’s obviously better offensively. But would rather see him or any other player try and prove themselves at a higher standard.
Not sure if he was offered a new contract at the time, but not his fault if we only took up the option.
Hope it works out for him, and we find another future gem

I echo what others have said in that I think Josh will struggle at Championship level. He's not a great 1v1 defender and is very one-footed - he never looks comfortable on the ball to me.

That said, he's quite robust (very rarely inured), strong in the air and in a tackle, and does chip in with a very decent amount of goals/assists.

I'm not that disappointed to see him leave, but he's been a decent servant to the club and I'm pleased for him that he's (seemingly) got himself a decent pay rise and a chance to play at a higher level.

All the best, Josh.

Earlier today the local papers here were saying that Huddersfield were eying up a move for Ruffels but were expecting tough competition from Forest. Unless anyone has heard different, he is still not moving yet.

On RadOx season round up..more or less certain he was going..Huddersfield have just come into the field.

I appreciate that, its just that several posters on here appear to think that he has already signed for Huddersfield. I was simply putting the record straight.

Absolutely correct about him being one footed. That first goal in the play offs was down to him forcing himself to use his left. Also was a few times where instead of putting the ball out of play he’s put it into an area where we were put in trouble.

Other then that his attacking threat and passing is second to none he has a great engine on him aswell and he will be missed in that sense. Great servant to the club and wish him all the best.

I’m told by a Nottinghamshire mate that he’s at Forest now, having a medical.
