“Subject: Help support Oxford United’s new stadium for a better away day experience

Hi, an Oxford United fan here in peace.

Our club is desperately trying to secure a new stadium site, or we’ll be homeless from 2026.

With that in mind, if anyone on here would be happy to fill in a short online questionnaire being run by Oxfordshire County Council, our fans would be massively grateful.

It only takes about five minutes or so to fill in the short online form with positive answers at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/C8O8VI/ by 23 July 2023.

The benefits to you as away fans will be:
  • A sustainable stadium right next door to a major railway station in Oxford Parkway (a short train ride from Oxford City Centre) and opposite a large Park&Ride site, which would make it one of the easiest, greenest grounds to get to in the UK.
  • Proper drinking, food and entertainment options at the ground itself, compared to embarrassing facilities currently on offer at our current ground or nearby.
  • A modern, well-designed ground which will help to support a proper atmosphere, rather than the soulless, three-side ground we have now.
A few sentences on any of the above for the survey’s final comment box would be really helpful in showing our County Council that the new ground will be sustainable, increase spending in Oxfordshire, and provide excellent facilities for home AND away fans.

We all appreciate the value of a good away day, whether we’re potentially playing you in a league or cup game from 2026 onwards. Taking a few minutes to support a fellow club before it becomes homeless in just a few years would be massively appreciated. Thank you.”

And in terms of getting of posting messaging on message boards of fellow EFL clubs (minus Swindon and Reading), would people be happy to put their name down to one (or a few) of the following?

I am happy to help out with this. Are you going to split this list up between volunteers?

Hadn’t really thought about it apart from just getting some wording together as a suggestion and then asking if people might be happy to help with posting on Forum.

Doubt we’ll get all 69 clubs done (fnar fnar) but every little helps. If you’re happy to name any club Forums you’re happy to approach, I can update the list with your name alongside it.

Hopefully that will encourage others to do a little of this themselves too.

You may be correct.
But,continually pushing the thought that local democracy is futile in the face of a money mountain, will only alienate and increase local opposition .
I’m increasingly of the opinion, that your posts are structured in a way that deliberately provokes an increase in the anti Stadium vote.
So are you saying Kassam isn't on ground worth millions, in this case the stadium !

I was responding to your previous post.
So you are saying that Kassam is pulling the strings and directly behind the proposal to move to The Triangle ?
If this is the case , I hope he is as successful as he was in the move from the Manor to Minchery Farm.

I'd add in: "the Kassam Stadium owner is not willing to allow OUFC to play there beyond June 2026 as he wishes to redevelop stadium and the surrounding complex (he started the process a couple of weeks ago, see: https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/23599088.oxford-united-stadium-owner-plans-demolish-facility/). He is also not willing to sell to OUFC despite several offers as he stands to make more from redeveloping the stadium."

No your saying that not me, however by not any hope of an extension past the lease end date should there be a delay in planning for a new Stadium, he is helping OUFC by the fact that OCC cannot afford delays in offering OUFC a new home . So I would say yes he is helping in a round about way !

Many of the forums are listed here https://yellowsforum.co.uk/threads/other-teams-forums.4825/

I will make a start and keep you updated.

Derby County done (DCFC Fans). I also dangled the carrot of safe standing under their noses. I thought I would start with the biggest fan bases but the Pompey Chimes proved impossibly difficult to register for (I could find a registration code that should have been at the bottom of the page but was missing). I will have another go tomorrow.

Excellent, thanks a lot - please do amend the suggested template copy in message #10,622 as you see fit - that can be found here:

Two down so far then (or soon) as follows. Anyone else happy to join so we can stick your name down?

Even if we only get a modest number of sign-ups, it will mean we can (hopefully) pick these threads on other Forums back up in the autumn to also ask that they respond to the statutory planning public consultation.

Would still love for @OxVox and @Paul P to also contact their equivalents at other clubs directly too, to ask that they respond on behalf of supporter trusts. And perhaps see if the FSA will share with members asking for their support too.

How about contacting ex-players on on social media to help raise awareness? John Aldridge is active on Twitter, I'm sure he'd do a retweet.

More ambitiously, how about reaching out to celebrities who like football and live in Oxfordshire? Jeremy Clarkson is a Chelsea fan and I'm sure would sympathise with out battle with the local authorities. Even more ambitiously a certain Chipping Norton resident use to play a bit and has a few followers, David someone...?!

It might be a good idea to particularly target clubs like ourselves who have sat on the brink of existence. The shared experience might trigger a bigger response.

Yep, I think clubs that have struggled financially, clubs we play regularly and those who generally bring a big crowd here are key.

If folk are happy to name a club to take on, that would be great.
