He really was better than 'bang average'. Albeit in an underperforming team, both the fans and players voted him player of the season. If he was bang average, then really we ought be be looking to offload every other player from last season, because they were worse!
Wasn’t really better than a 6/10 every week. Don’t remember one out standing game that he had. I guarantee you 90% of the fans want an upgrade on him then brown to be a back up option

Looking at the free agents list, couple names for LB-DM-WG-WG/ST-ST.

Some interesting ones where maybe because we wouldn’t pay a fee upfront, we could afford to pay slightly higher wage, and also some interesting players that have been abroad and may look for a move back..

  • Josh Ruffles/Keanan Bennetts
  • Dejan Tetek/Dennis Adeniran
  • Andre Green/Josh Martin
  • Yakou Meite/Armstrong Oko-Flex
  • Mark Harris/Sam Smith

Can’t see Sam smith returning. I would love Meite just to P**s reading fans off.

See you joined the forum after the season ended. So either had nothing to say or just fishing
I’ve looked for ages. Just didn’t make an account. I went to every game 2 seasons ago apart from a few. Only ones I missed last season was the ones where robbo was in charge and we went on a horrible run. Don’t call me out. I’m not fishing just my opinion!

I'm really hoping we might get Oko-Flex. I think that would be a really interesting signing. Might be out of our reach - I heard he was on trial at Sunderland - but hopefully the Manning connection from his time as WHU U21 manager might help.

Yeah, seemed to be highly rated, never really got going at Swansea. Could be a typical “Oxford signing” give a young lad a chance and take the profit 1/2 years later

Would you have brown at left back in your starting 11? No I don’t think many would. Let’s be honest does he get into many top 6 sides or any championship side. Most definitely not. I like brown. Got good heading and gives it his all. He will be a good back up option to Thorniley
Good thing we’re not competing in the Championship next season then?

You say Brown was ‘awful’ and then later that he was not above 6/10 most games. 6/10 is ‘awful’ now is it?! Surely a 3/10 or at a push 4/10 performance is ‘awful’? Plus I saw Brown put plenty of 7/10 performances in.

It’s pretty unarguable that Brown was overall solid at left back last season. I’m sure many fans would be happy with an upgrade but I highly doubt most would describe him as an ‘awful’ left back…

I wouldn’t really have them as back up there. Imagine starter LB back gets injured and you have to play brown there who destroys the style of play and going forward side of things. I would sell Findlay tbh or loan him and have brown as back up to Thorniley

Didn’t concede many but most of the goals we did concede were so avoidable. Brown is awful at full back. We can’t start with him at left back next season

Well obviously every team will feel that pretty much every goal is avoidable.

By my reckoning there were at least five positions needing strengthening before worrying about replacing Brown at left back.

You don't like him, fair enough, but he wasn't incompetent in the way that most of our forward line was. And he didn't find a nice place to hide like our midfield often did.

we will sign at least one striker if not two, we have to it's as simple as that, our only strikers are G'OD and Baldock.
Wish someone would have told Robinson that over the last 3/4 transfer windows, oh wait a minute they did

I think a more attacking style left back coming in would be good, and both players would force the other to improve on weaker sides of the game

Problem is Ciaron Brown's weakness as a left back is not something he can work on easily. He's a 6 ft+ brick ****house with not much pace and minimal agility in his mid-20s.
He's strong and he reads the game well and that makes him a really solid defender......but there's just no way he's going to become a dangerous, attacking left back ever. He just doesn't have the physical skillset.

As someone else pointed out previously, he's absolutely fine to have as a LB if your RB is a marauding nutcase like Cadden or Baldock. Then you're playing a system that's almost fluid between a back four and a back three. But it doesn't sound like Stevens is that sort of player (and we know Long isn't). So we need a full back/wing back who offers some attacking threat on the left as well.

Let’s be honest he was bang average. No one performed last season. Amount of goals came from Browns side I could remember a few. Also can’t play out from the back or go forward offers nothing. Just hoofs it long. He’s more of a centre back
You described brown as awful a few posts ago and now he’s average! If we wait a few more posts, will he be decent!

Am I the only one who remembers Ciaron Brown bringing the ball out from the back and seemingly strolling into the final third with ease? I'm not saying that he is the next Roberto Carlos, but he frequently stretched the play but had limited options when he did. Although he might not be lightning fast, he's no slouch either but looks slower because of his size.

Can we do better? Of course. Is he awful? Clearly not.

There are far more pressing issues than upgrading Ciaron Brown.
I mean Players Player and Supporters Player of the Season and current Northern Irish international Ciaron Brown.
Solid and reliable at the back and comfortable on the ball going forward. One of the first if not the first name on my team sheet.
Move along please.
