Away Match Day Thread +++6/04/2019 Walsall v OUFC match day thread+++

It’s not about funding the club. It’s about paying your bills on time and paying your staff and paying your rent. All basic obligations. I’m confused why somebody would take on a club if they can’t fulfil those basic requirements I suppose.
Have a go at running a business yourself, you may well find that it is not that straightforward.
I actually have run a business, you must have me mistaken for somebody else Anthomic. But I suppose that’s my point, if you can’t do it properly then don’t get into it. I’m not going to get into arguments on here though, I accept my original post might have been a bit over the top, I got a little emotional after yesterday’s win and felt the playing side was achieving in spite of the owners rather than because of them. But we all can have differing views on how we regard them and how competent they are, I accept that.

If all teams continue their current form Wycombe will be relegated on 45 points, Southend 44, Walsall 44, Bradford 38 with Scunthorpe surviving on 48 points.

If teams below us win all their games; Bradford can only manage 51 points but Rochdale (57) Walsall (57) Wimbledon and Southend (58) could overtake us not accounting for teams playing each other.

I had a guess at who will go down and those were my four, all out of form at the wrong time of the year.

We are safe, it’s not just the points it’s the number of teams, we are not going to be overhauled by 9 teams in 5/6 games.

Indeed the concept of running a business can be very different to the reality.

Nevertheless you would hope to see some level of competence and paying wages on time being just one aspect simply because a cost of this nature is a standard monthly outgoing rather than some sort of unexpected “out of the blue” expense.

Anyone can grasp the concept of expected cash flows in and out .. people have to do that on a daily basis as a normal part of life.

I don’t disagree with the sentiment but thought it sounded a bit harsh ?

Not really. We’re stony broke (allegedly), the last thing we need is a wage wasted on a player that’s not contributing.

I’d completely forgotten about Baptist’s. I’d say central defense and filling that striker role are pretty key now.

May need a keeper. If we can get one of Browne or Graham to join that’s two lethal wings sandwiching a very capable midfield
Yes it's looking better using it.
Regarding the keeper assuming Eastwood stays then I am hoping that Steven's is seen as good enough. He has been back up keeper for the second half of the season and this us what the U23s are supposed to be about?
If not good enough I guess that he will be released as well as Shearer.

I think next year we should play our youth a bit more Spasov and the likes would love to see our youth system used, forget about Graham for a moment he will not sign for us permanently not in a million years so rather than going and buying a winger for stupid money let’s use spasov on the wing or someone from our youth let’s build our team around our own look at Tottenham and how Man Utd were we can’t be freezing our youth team out of the first team otherwise they’ll go else we’re like Dexter Blackstock

I’d offer a pay as you play deal to Rob Hall and not pursue Browne.

I’d try to push the boat out for Jordan Graham - he’s a joy to watch, has great feet.
And if Watford could be persuaded to cover 75% of his wages - I’d be keen to do a deal for Jerome Sinclair
for next season. Pace down the middle can never be under-estimated.

Does Ahmed Kashi want to stay ? With Baptiste, Brannagan and Kashi that’s good options in midfield.

And Sykes.

And full backs. Even though Ruffels and Long have done a great job, they lack the pace etc to overlap which you expect from a modern day fullback.

Apart from when long did it yesterday with only 10 men for our second you mean ??

And when ruffels has done it to assist and score in the 94th min two home games running

Not mathematically, but can’t find details of clubs relegated from L1 with 52 points.

Torquay Utd were relegated in 2004-05 with 51 points on the final day with one Adebayo Akinfenwa
leading the line.

Leicester City were relegated from the Championship in 2007-08 with 52 points.

I doubt if Leicester were 12th with 5 games to go though. I haven't looked so whilst in theory it might be possible for everyone below us to finish above us, lots of them must be playing each other to make it impossible?

I reckon that we have two decent full backs in Long and Ruffels. The lack of goals conceded recently says an awful lot.
Long is getting better going forward as was evidenced yesterday.
KR was right in suggesting that Ruffels has been one of our most consistent performers.
Sure neither are like a Baldock, and neither stand out but both are 7 out of 10 most weeks and I reckon they are under rated.

All the teams below us have at least 3 games left against other teams in the bottom half, except Scunthorpe who have only 2, so it is still complicated.

However Bradford can no longer catch us and we would be mathematically safe next Saturday evening if all of the following results happen this week:

We beat Wimbledon and get to 55 points;
Walsall lose to Accrington on Saturday, meaning they could only reach 54 points; Rochdale lose to Accrington on Tuesday and to Portsmouth on Saturday meaning they could also only reach 54 points; Wycombe get no more than 1 point from their games against Charlton and Southend this week.

That would leave Wycombe able to reach 57 points in total and Wimbledon able to reach 55 points in total, but as they still have to play each other, one of them would have to finish on lower than 55.

Harsh to say he is moaning. He references how well we played in the second half and how great the fans are AND how the players are looking like more of a group, hardly whining . In regards to next season it is a real possibility that this groop of players could be dismantled or whatever you want to call it like it has in the past few seasons, I'd say its pretty unfair to say its whining to discuss what may happen, he even says that it's possible that some players will stay and therefore the squad will not be broken up. If you disagree with what MellowYellow thinks then fair enough but I think it's unfair to say he's whining

Thanks for that. Funny really because I can’t find the person moaning about my post, because ironically it will be one of the old school stiffs I ignored a long time ago. The kind of idiot that waits to pounce on anything I post. Maybe if they got off their backsides and made the effort to get to away games then they could make an informed comment, rather than simply posting their usual drivel.

Funny how they haven’t commented on my last post, when I got home. Doesn’t fit their miserable agenda.

He could have used his time to praise the fans instead maybe?
COYY!

A return after each club's fixture will help this no end. That's if you actually want people to read it

6 months ago I'd have been fuming about the red cards because we were in a horrific state and we could barely select an 18. Now though it doesn't bother me when you see that our captain and one of two of the best wingers in the league will come in next week to replace Kashi and Browne after being stuck on the bench.
