Home Match Day Thread +++ FAC 4th Replay - OUFC v Newcastle United MDT +++

St maximin ended up being the difference I think any team would have struggled to keep that goal out. The best aspect of the night for me was the fact we matched them man for man all over the pitch in technique and fitness. Surely league one should be a doddle(I wish)!

I actually thought we looked fitter. At one stage in ETthey couldn’t cope with the way we were moving the ball and finding acres of space.

Amazed at some oc the comments on here about Kelly after he came on ( overweight and not a footballer??) To me he looked a good footballer and a cracking goal.

Sorry but Kelly did look overweight, not sure how you can be amazed by that as he doesn’t exactly have a six pack, the guy has got a belly on him! That’s not to be critical of his performance in any way but it’s just stating a simple fact! I also made a comment about him looking not like a footballer, again that wasn’t based on how he was playing, just that, aesthetically speaking, as he came on (and the first time I’d properly seen him) he looked like a short, chubby, round-shouldered kid. Again all this was tongue in cheek and based on literally glancing at him as he came on, not a detailed critique of his performance.

And yet on Radio Oxford after the match he praised other players and all he said about Agyei was that he “missed a sitter”. Cheers for that Karl. Let’s just overlook the lad’s positivity and the fact that it was his pace, power and directness that won Kelly’s free kick. He’ll love hearing that back, I’m sure. Also good to know that Ritchie throwing his body in the way of that ‘sitter’ couldn’t have meant much. Not often you hear a manager practically having a sulk over a player doing well. Weird.

Another enjoyable adventure comes to an end with the team able to hold their heads up high. Games galore in L1 coming up now - bring it on.
Agyei did NOT not miss a sitter, Ritchie was on the ground covering the ball.
I was amazed when he came on with 20 minutes instead of 2 or 3, then to get an extra 30 minutes of extra time. It showed us he is capable, he is ready and he is good enough to replace Mackie. Put him in.

Fitness had a lot to do with how that game panned out. For the first 70 minutes Newcastle’s tactics were spot on, they pressed us, they double marked, they treated us with a lot of respect. They then lost their discipline and their our passing quality began to hurt them.

Once Taylor et al came on it was anyone’s game.
Our subs were again spot on, Robinson ?.

It’s the thing these days to use superlatives to describe modest success but OUFC performances against higher ranked cup sides this season have been little short of sensational.

Despite injuries, despite players being sold, we keep it going. Proud of the lads and let’s go on and finish the season with a win at Wembley. We are plenty good enough to go up.

I felt they pressed us in the first half, but it was clear in the second half they dropped off which was a big mistake. As we’ve said before, if teams allow us the play from defence then we will punish them.

Once we got the equaliser it initially felt that there was only one team that was going to win, us.

Just felt with Thorne playing that quarterback role we started to lose that yard of quickness which Kelly had been producing after his initial 5-10mins on the pitch further forward, but once he dropped deeper he/we were more effective.

woken up gutted we didn't get the result as we could have, we pretty much said go on have a shot for all 3 of there goals and got punished. Technically we have some great young players albeit not ours, last night showed our weaknesses rb and another strike option perhaps had we got them before the deadline window we could be into the 5th round anyway Hollands goal was something of beauty and looks a great asset for now. Dickie was different class last night

Why are you complaining about Sam Long? He was tremendous.

I’m surprised about the praise of Dickie, he’s usually immense but I thought he looked slow last night, his lack of pace was brutally exposed at times

RB weakness ? Explain to me “as if I was a two year old” exactly what Sam Long didn’t do last night?

Another great night. Thought there was some promising performances from people stepping up. Sykes again did well. Kelly, once settled, was very good. Shout for Elliot Moore...rarely gets a league start but steps in and is always either good or very good.

Not overly bothered about the result, but pleased we eventually showed up to a game that looked lost and gave the millions watching at home a chance to see the levels we can get to most weeks in the league.

Shout also to the NUFC fan who celebrated their winner in the style of Gav Whyte :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

don’t know if to feel pleased and proud of that or p***ed off we didn’t win it. bit of both i suppose.
Kelly looks like he’s going to be a huge (or small!) asset for us and Holland will hopefully gain confidence from that and carry it on into the league games.
back 4 were pretty solid and nice to see Long attacking more.
can’t fault any of them really, just hope not too knackered for saturday
