International News Covid-19 .....

What she should have done was go cattle class with the “workers” and not 1st class with these JRM types 😉
There's something very funny about a politician who actively describes themself as a "socialist" spending our money to use a special mode of transport known as "first class". Incredibly ironic, Bolshevik behaviour.

Yes because none of their work is confidential and they are not bound by the official secrets acts. I know this because their partners are allowed to attend their meetings.

I didn’t realise she had booked the whole carriage to herself.

Didn't you hear hardly anyone used the trains during lockdown.

As a matter of interest who do you think should used first class and who shouldn't?

So cattle class would have been perfectly fine then. No need for the privacy of 1st that you suggest.

I really couldn’t care if it comes out of someone’s own pocket.

Tax payer funds standard travel and upgrades come out of own pocket.

It does still seem a decent holiday entitlement though.

30 days holiday after 5 years civil service plus bank holidays plus 1 privilege day.

Remember that those days are often in lieu of bank holidays so it's not quite as attractive. I could be required to work Christmas and Boxing Day as part of my scheduled shifts but get a wet Tuesday in October off in return. Also required to work weekends and night shifts so not all it's cracked up to be.

Not moaning, its done me fine for getting on for 30 years. But it's certainly not the jolly that some think, especially with pension reforms on the horizon.

I haven’t heard ‘Bolshevik’ in years. I’m starting to think you’re either a troll or Tory backbencher Sir Bufton-Tufton.

I think I get 30 days plus bank holidays in the private sector, not that unusual. I don’t believe in a race to the bottom.

So up to 8 or 9 days “sick” too without it blotting your record (not you from what you’ve said ) and I’m now guessing still on final salary pension ?

I get it that most people don’t abuse the sick days but as seen earlier some do.

Why should being off sick blot your record?? Some people are sick for months, it’s not something you can help.

I think for private sector that’s pretty decent as statutory is 20 plus bank holiday.

I know I got up to 20 days plus bank holidays plus an additional 5 for long service when I was employed but nothing like 38 days p/a.

Having worked for myself for 15 odd years I tend to lose track these days.

Because people can take duvet days. So a pretend sickie. Doesn’t need a doctor’s note. Etc.

So above are various examples of “return to work “ encouragements.

Do you take pretend sickies then? I never do, though I dont need a doctors note for a couple of days off.

Well no. Probably had two or three weeks off sick in 15 years. Three days this year for flu jab.

Just saying that some people do use their sick “allowance”

And the “signed off for six weeks” type folk. Could return to work but don’t irrespective of whether they are fit to work again or not.

you can self cert for 28 days now before getting a FIT note, nightmare....

We all make our choices in life.

My skill set would allow me to walk into various managerial positions in civvy street and add 50% to my wage over night. But I'd probably lose out on the pension, attendance management and job security. Short term/long terms gains.

More importantly I'd actually lose out on a career that I've really enjoyed and one where I know that I make a real difference. I hope that you can say the same.

Last time I was directly employed I had 28 days annual leave and three days off sick (I literally couldn't walk six metres to the bathroom to be sick) in ten years and my current covid isolation is in my own time..... so don't go judging people by your own standards.
