Hopefully we stick with the 3-4-1-2 formation with some new quality wing backs.

Taylor/Baldock front 2 with Browne in the 10 behind them. Bodin as Browne back up 😍

Perhaps we should suspend this thread now until late July. This will be when KR makes his first move for a player, and attempts, at the last minute, to fill the gaps made by the loss of Sykes, Cam, McNally, Kane, Whyte, and Holland.

More like end of August!

That looks great to me on face value but puts us in our current exposed situation with potential injuries, 2 of those 4 (Baldock & Bodin) have real history of injuries.

Season starts earlier this year. First game is July 30th.

Sean Raggert on a free from Pompey? Not signed a new contract, having 4cbs of Moore, McNally, brown, raggert, with long as a reserve too would be good depth.

As much as I don’t think they have done amazing, both Holland and whyte, if not hugely expensive, would be welcome back in my eyes. The continuity of our front line would set us up well to start this season, let’s be honest, it has been good going forward this year.

Id keep herbie, and if CB stays great, otherwise, 2/3 good, strong dynamic midfielders, nobody that might play wide or cb, but proper specialists in the middle.

I’d also look for a keeper. Will be a very interesting window, my big question, does anybody in the know have any idea about CB release clause and rules this window. I know often they expire before the last year of a contract, and whilst he is fantastic, I wonder if he has become an expensive risk for some championship clubs, as he would only go somewhere he was guaranteed football!

What on earth has Whyte done this season that would suggest he deserves a contract?

Agreed. We look great against the weaker teams in our 4-3-3, but when we switched to three at the back and had Taylor and Baldock together up front I felt like we could beat anyone at this level.

Ive not been overly impressed by mcguane this season whenever he's come on or started he's not been great also Stevens hasn't filled me with hope where as last season he looked like he was going to be top draw

That team you’ve put up will still concedes 2+ a game so thats hardly an improvement is it

Goalkeeper RWB LWB & CB & a better DCM than Gorrin is needed in that side

Honestly, McGuane and Browne are going to need someone about as good as Kante to make that a midfield three that'll see through a promotion campaign.

If the plan is to play a front two, and we end up with Bodin, Browne and McGuane all still here, I'd be pretty worried about the squad composition and repeats of errors made this year.

KEEP/RELEASE/RETURN/SELL

EASTWOOD: KEEP- A very good keeper at this level, and other than his blip last season, that rightfully saw him lose his place, he's been superb for us, and for me, he's our No1, until genuine competition comes in.

STEVENS: SELL- Not good enough, kicking is pathetic, easily beaten unless it's straight at him, and I'd look to replace him in the summer. If he stays, for me he's no2.

LONG: KEEP- He needs the kind of competition he had when Cadden was here, and to be allowed to play in one position, be it CB or RB, but not shifted around all over the backline, along with COVID, it's hindered his season, as he hasn't been allowed to make a position his own, and it must be so unsettling.

McNALLY: KEEP- He's been superb, still a little raw at times, so would really benefit from staying for another season or two, in a more solid, settled backline. Fear he may be snapped up though.

MOORE: KEEP- If I'm honest, while he's a good CB at this level, with excellent composure, I think there's better out there, and I don't think he should be captain, as he's quite passive and quiet, I'd like to see a bit more noise and aggression from him next season, otherwise, like Long, if genuine competition is brought in, he might struggle to
remain first choice, especially if McNally stays.

MOUS: RELEASE- Shame really, as he proved in his one league appearance that he's still got it, by getting MOTM, but he's about to turn 36, and I'd like to see him focus on coaching now, as I feel he could be a good coach for us. Cheers Mous πŸ‘

SEDDON: SELL- He started well, but then rapidly went downhill, and looked pretty clueless defensively at times. That could be Robbo's fault, due to overusing him, due to no genuine LB competition or cover, but overall, he's not been good enough.

BRANNAGAN: KEEP- Wishful thinking really, I think he'll be snapped up in the summer, but he's been superb for us, and showed loyalty, when a lot of other players wouldn't have, and if he leaves, he leaves with his head held high, and mine, and I'm sure all OUFC fans best wishes.

GORRIN: KEEP- He's been missed, and is the kind of player who would've made the difference during this 2nd half of the season, but he needs genuine competition and cover, to keep him on his toes, and so we don't end up with a gaping hole in our team again in his absence, when he inevitably misses games due to suspensions.

McGUANE: KEEP- We haven't seen the best of him yet, bu there's an awesome player in there, he just needs a good run of games, to build up his fitness, and confidence, then we'll probably be struggling to keep him!

FORDE: KEEP- A very versatile player, who should play a lot more than he does, never has a bad game, and his versatility makes him invaluable.

WILLIAMS: KEEP- I wasn't too fussed when he returned, but he's matured into a very good player, who is surprisingly versatile, and a bit like Forde, players like him are important to have in the squad.

SYKES: LET HIM GO- He's clearly a talented player, but he's flimsy and lightweight, a weakling who doesn't like tackling, and has shown in recent games, he doesn't have the belly for the fight, and his clear disdain for our fans after games is quite frankly insulting. He's easily replaced.

HANSON: LET HIM GO- CROCK! Even when fit, which is never, he's useless. Go and steal a wage from someone else.

HENRY: KEEP- Getting on a bit now, so competition and cover is needed, but an absolute class player, who when fully fit, and on form, is still our most talented player.

TAYLOR: KEEP- Where would we be without his goals? An excellent player, who is so good with the ball, and loves a battle. But we rely too heavily on him, he needs competition, cover, and support, as when he has a strike partner, he's as good as it gets at this level.

BALDOCK: KEEP- Been superb since he's been here, although injury record is a concern, but I'd definitely offer him a contact, as when fit, he's formed a formidable partnership with Taylor.

BODIN: KEEP- Brilliant 2nd half to the season, very talented played, simply must offer him a long term contract, although another who will need to be looked after, due to injury record, so effective cover will be needed, but like Baldock, when fit, he's a starter.

BROWNE: KEEP- Look forward to seeing him tearing defences apart next season!

WINNALL: RELEASE- Like Hanson, another player stealing a living, who even on the rare occasion he's actually fit, is useless, get rid.

LOANS/FRINGE PLAYERS:

COOPER: RELEASE- He's obviously not in Robbo's plans, and we need to only have squad places and wages taken up by players who are going to genuinely push for a starting spot, so if he's not gonna feature, then it's time to move on.

SMYTH: Look forward to seeing what he can do next season.

KANE: RETURN- A great first half of the season, looked class, and fair enough, not played in his best role since, but has looked pretty poor since January, can't tackle, slow, too small, and doesn't seem to fancy a battle, and I'm not sure I'd want him back. Can see why he's not fulfilled his potential.

BROWN: TRY TO BUY- After a shaky start, he's been immense in recent games, and on that form, I'd like us to try to bring him in permanently, as part of our defensive reinforcements.

WHYTE: RETURN- Major disappointment, too skinny and weak, and can't score, I've seen better finishing at schoolboy level. Not the same player as his first spell with us.

HOLLAND: RETURN- Doesn't do enough, one good half every 5 games is not good enough, and like Whyte, is pathetically skinny and flimsy, and a strong fart would knock him off the ball. Two spells with us now, and both times not good enough. Move on.

If we can keep our best players, and replace the deadwood with solid signings, and build a strong, balanced squad, then maybe next year will be the one!

BIG SUMMER AHEAD!!

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!!

Whyte has got lots of assists and would be formidable if we could get him back to his previous form. I’d have him and Kane if the price was right but wouldn’t break the bank for them

What did he say about them?
Doesn’t think Sykes is a championship player (I agree!). That it looks like Seddon is no longer fancied and that KR has made his mind up. That Thorniley going

Largely agree...one thing to consider:

Whyte: 9 Assists
Sykes: 5 Assists
Kane: 5 Assists
Seddon: 4 Assists

All very basic but a load of creativity to potentially replace

agree with most of that, except I’d probably keep Seddon if we are looking at playing with wing backs next season. I think he has a great engine on him and looked good going forward. I’d also try and sign Kane, BUT PLAY HIM IN HIS NATURAL POSITION ROBBO!! Quality player. I wouldn’t want to see him playing against us for another league one team, he’s that kind of good.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!!

agree with most of that, except I’d probably keep Seddon if we are looking at playing with wing backs next season. I think he has a great engine on him and looked good going forward. I’d also try and sign Kane, BUT PLAY HIM IN HIS NATURAL POSITION ROBBO!! Quality player. I wouldn’t want to see him playing against us for another league one team, he’s that kind of good.

Sadly, there are players in the squad now, loan or otherwise, that are not benefitting from the management style. Kane, Sykes, Whyte and Long, as examples, are all being switched around to cover deficiencies in the squad. Played in their ideal positions with proper coaching and we have better players. As it stands, Kane is not a defensive mid, Sykes has displayed his impatience with the system, Whyte, apparently, arrived with his best skills coached out of him and Long is unsettled. (evidenced by the improvement over the last two games playing in his accustomed role) Gavin Whyte has demonstrated fleetingly how good he can be but, if no-one is prepared to play and coach him into one role, what hope is there?

I don't see any of this changing unless KR brings in a balanced squad, something he has not done for the previous 3 seasons. We can only speculate as to why that is but, my money is on players not willing to risk a career on being turned into something they are not.

That said, what are the chances that 3 out of the 4 mentioned will be gone at season end? Barnsley coming down will want Kane back, Sykes wants away, Whyte will probably be made available by Cardiff and go elsewhere and only Long will hang around.

has it been confirmed as yet (officially) that it will be up to 5 subs in EFL league games next season?

if that does come in will the EFL powers that be taking another look at the squad size cap for L1 & L2 sides, with a view to increasing them by 2 or 3 players ?

and maybe redefine the exemption for home grown assets from u21s to u23s?

Assuming we manage to keep him. Brannagan. Should be captain next season.
he has the drive and passion to drive the team on good or bad times.
reminds me of Steven Gerrard the way he was at Liverpool
