I think weve got 7 or 8 squad places max to fill.
We have 8 to fill currently. 9 if Mousinho retires.

Calm down, let the key swing from the chain. Clearly you don't do the maths at your joint. Since when has 5/6 been anywhere near 9 or 10 if McNally leaves. As your spinning for your god, don't forget the 2 loan players who we cant have yet. Enjoy the new role, no hiding in that one.

I really, really rate McNally. I hope we give him a much better three year contract. But stick in a sell on clause that can only be activated by a club from a higher division from next summer. If we go up, that keeps the Championship clubs away. That keeps both parties happy, protecting him and us. I genuinely think he will benefit from another season with us. If (and I don't think it's a big if) he carries on this rate of progression, he will go straight to the Premiership this time next year. And he'd still only be 23. I've been watching Oxford for nearly 50 years now. In that time, I've seen four players make their debuts who, within 20 minutes, I thought would play at the highest level. The first three were Jim Magilton, Matt Elliott, Lundstram. And McNally was the fourth. I hope we don't sell him just yet!!!I think back to Rob Dickie in his 2 & half year spell with us, did well enough to start when he came straight into the side but in his 1st full season in 18/19 for 2/3rd’s of the season he really struggled but had a excellent finish with the rest of the team in that final 1/3rd, he had 1 year left but was never ready to take that next step just yet, then when on to sign a new 2 year contract then became 1 of the best Centrebacks in this league & fully deserved his move to the championship when we missed out on promotion, I feel McNally is in that bracket not quite ready for the championship yet bit like Atkinson the previous season & who's had his struggles for form at Bristol City so far which is no surprise as he left a year to early.
I want us to keep hold of McNally so we can see the benefits & reward in his 2nd full season in league football, he has the potential to do the same if not better than Dickie did in his 2nd full year by taking this league by storm (cuts out the mistakes in his game & becames a that consistent performer week in week out)

Ah. But the funniest debut I've ever seen was Dwight Tiendalli at Fleetwood. The poor bloke could hardly run, he was so past it. He looked terrified whenever the ball came near him. Had a very neat little flick through his legs, though. Muscle memory from when he could still play, no doubt. Xemi against Wigan ran Dwight pretty close. I wasn't lucky enough to see Mike Salmon, but I gather that was also pretty special. You missed Sappleton and Gino from that list, don't lie

As for sappleton he looked like he could be the next heskey
Absolutely! Elliott won everything in the air. Pinged 30-40 yard passes straight to feet. Immediately a standout. Magilton was at West Ham and I was with a sports journalist friend, who couldn't believe he was playing for us. He turned two West Ham players inside out in the first five minutes. Ran the game. Lundstram came on as a sub, immediately wanted the ball, and was pinging 10/20/30 yard balls straight to feet. Especially at a lower level, you can spot the quality players straight away.Really ? I don’t believe that last bit at all. Tell me, what did Matt Elliott do on his debut in the first 20 minutes that had you saying he will go right to the top ? Win a few headers ? Lundstram another, I can’t recall his debut for us but his style of play isn’t one that would immediately have you purring. Magilton ? Possibly as he had a very silky first touch and was a clearly intelligent footballer.
For me, Jamie Brooke’s was one who I immediately thought looked on a different level, sadly it wasn’t to be though. Beauchamp was another, after a few games though, but again he never made the step up. Could never have envisaged Robbie Mustoe having the top flight career he did and I guess it shows you that one good or bad game in front of a watching scout can be a players make or break and why no one should really blame a young player like McNally for wanting to seize the opportunity if it arises.
Interestingly, none of those three were particularly quick, whereas McNally is. And that pace was immediately obvious within a few minutes of his debut.Absolutely! Elliott won everything in the air. Out of interest, why did you feel it was necessary to be rude?Really ? I don’t believe that last bit at all. Here's a thought. Next time you go to a match, why not take a mate who knows what he's looking at. Your mate could point out the better players to you. You'd find it interesting. Funnily enough, it's not just the 'silky' players that stand out. Go on. Then you could post on here about how you've 'spotted' a really good player. It'd be fun.A busy opening 20 minutes for debutant Elliott then - in both defence and attack by the sound of it.
Perhaps the trialists are signed until July 1st? Or could they be Spanish? Or could spending a week in Spain getting fitter be required by the club and the player?I was a bit disappointed to hear in that clip of Robinson in Spain that Trailists were there. I thought the days of having a look to see if they're any good were over and we had several scouts and a recruitment team that methodically and professionally identified targets.
