Sheff Wed, Derby good few others have multiple players on more than Brannagan i'd imagine so we'll be fine for FFP
With what Sheffield Wed are paying players, I don’t even think FFP exists as they should of failed it by now & if they don’t go up this season I would imagine they will be in trouble with those rules.

Nothing wrong with being ambitious. Money talks & if we are offering more of it then players will accept it if it gets to that stage, even though Brannagan loves the club. He’s obviously got a very decent pay rise that surpassed what Blackpool were going to offer him.
thats all well and good but if all (or even most of those targets) then turn us down where does it leave us

sure and we are all entitled to that - somebody else has suggested he is pretty much safe unless we go down - time will tell
That could be the case, if so then we need to bring someone else in to deal with transfers, because he’s shown he’s not capable of building a balanced squad or getting players in when we need them before the season starts.

Then you aim lower. I would imagine if it got to the stage of offering wages. Hardie would probably accept what we were offering as the club would have some idea if they player is interesting in coming or not before offering a fee for him. Whether they move the goalposts after that is a different matter, but agents and clubs talk to players.

If we get Hardie, then I would not only be delighted but also concede the point - I an definitely not ITK but some on here who are seem to suggest its not happening

Making a bid for Hardie similar to one Portsmouth made for Bishop is ambitious.

But it’s also unrealistic.

Plymouth are in a position where they don’t need to sell.

Very different to Accrington. As shown only a few months back with Charles to Bolton.

Sadly this is spot on - and its not even an upwards move for the player either

FAO Mods,

Any chance of an explanation as to why my post suggesting mental health isn't a trivial thing to be made light of was deleted?

I assume it was collateral for some of the nonsense between the L Boys, but then again posts about their potential offspring have survived?

Not that it should matter, but my post was Liked by several respected forum elders, which suggests again that it was more than reasonable.

For the sake of clarity, my post was something along the lines of "mentally ill as a term shouldn't be thrown around casually as it both trivialises mental health issues and stigmatises those that suffer - and it's a particularly bad look for an Oxford fan this year".

I'd love to know which part of that broke any forum rules, and if it's simply about deviation from thread topic then genuinelly half of the posts today (that have stayed) could have gone.

Usual disclaimers about the nature of the job etc, but very odd to censor a post that is far from offensive (and if anything suggests how language used can be just that).

Cheers.
Hey

I deleted any posts which quoted some of the posts, I did this in a rush on my phone.

I didn't even look at any of the replies as had little time to do the job.

I'll undelete it and edit the quoted post now I can have time.

In future please DM me rather than post a forum process/procedure question. so I don't miss it.

Update: Post is back up.

League One operates under the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) rather than the same FFP system that operates in the Championship.

Under it, clubs are supposed to spend no more than 60% of their revenues on player salaries.
As Derby and Wednesday generate much much higher matchday revenues than we do (because they get 3-4x the crowds), they in turn have the ability to spend more money on players.

Wealthy owners can get around it - but only by donating money to the club, not making loans. As far as I can tell, our owners have never done that. So we should not be able to match Derby or Wednesday for wages (overall).

Of course, the SCMP doesn't have the teeth that FFP does - they can't impose points deductions under it, only fines or transfer embargos (if the EFL bother to enforce it at all). So maybe our attitude is just '**** it!' !?!

Definitely, probably due to the fact like you say that Plymouth won’t want to sell. However I would imagine the player has some interest. Would be pointless making a bid if the player doesn’t want to come or at least talk to the club.

We will bring in another full back (either versatile to both sides or specialist right back)
We will bring in a striker, maybe 2 if one of them is under 21 and outside of squad limits.
We will bring in another winger and/or creative midfielder.

I don't know when but I do know that the budget and the intent is very clearly there. Some clubs are taking notice of our activity and I wouldn't be surprised to see some players who were only very recently out of our grasp becoming viable options.

Where are you getting these assurances from ?

On this occasion its someone who scouts for a number of clubs although not directly linked to Oxford. Their view is that Oxford are likely to be the big players in league one during August (in part due to the fact that other big sides have generally done their business).

We missed out on Kion Etete and have had an offer turned down on Hardie, but we're being very competitive with our bids and it's only a matter of time before they come together.

I don't think anyone in the club is panicking yet, but there is certainly frustration that we are where we are and that may focus our minds a little to get deals done.

Good morning,

Can I ask the handful of embittered moaners posting in a panicked tag team of doom to leave their keyboards alone today?

I’ve woken up feeling very optimistic about the season ahead and I don’t want them to drag me down.

There must be some favourite memory they can drag up and dwell on today instead? Christmas Day in 1957? The time they saw someone fall down the stairs and they were there at the bottom to say “I told you so.” Or Kevin Brock’s back pass vs Everton maybe?

From my source

The money is available and has been all window, the board is supplying a top 4 budget this season.

The problems seem to be that Karl didn't know what system he wanted to play at the start of the window, he also outlined players but had no back up players for when his first targets went elsewhere. He spent around 10 days in Spain right when the transfer window opened and players returned to training, his lack of being able to board a plane and lack of a DOF doing deals over here cost us. We were relying on loanees from premier league sides who have gone down the route of sending that player elsewhere.

I was behind the goal and funnily I became friendly with Adrian Heath when I became a golf pro in the potteries .He always loved winding me up. Let's hope for a couple in today feeling confident .
