I know it was inevitable but it didn’t help that the questions lurched between stadium and football. Just when it was getting interesting about recruitment the next question was back to the Triangle. Perhaps the questions could have been grouped to stadium first and football after or vice versa. I can see the downside being 80% of questions could be stadium related with only half the time allocated.

What did Steve Kinninburgh have to say? Anything interesting?

From what I can remember:

He was asked about getting the best young players from Oxon to the club. He explained that it is always the aim. They had 5 of the best rated local 7 year olds in (Iirc that was the age) and asked is that all of them but got told no, 3 were at Southampton. Southampton started coaching sessions at 6 years old whereas we started at 7 so the solution is for us to start at 6. We couldn't stop families going to PL Academies but we could give them a reason not to.

He also talked about keeping tabs on Oxon kids at other Academies so if they decide to leave or are released then we know where they are at and whether we should/can offer them an opportunity with us.

There may be more.

I thought he spoke well.

On a side-note, they are looking at naming the main show pitch, that the Youth team use, at the Training Ground as the The Manor to link in with our history.

Yes it did feel a bit disjointed.

Only right in my view that the majority of the questions should be stadium related, it is after all the most important issue facing the club at the current time. I think it would‘ve been better for those questions and answers to be grouped together in the discussion. Preferably at the beginning.

We get to hear from Robinson every week so it was unlikely that we’d get anything interesting, new or insightful from him apart from the fact he believes we had a good transfer window in the summer!

McWilliams, Kinniburgh & Gilbert all came across well.

That sounds unrealistic to me. Surely they mean Planning Permission in to CDC by end of March. Planning approval process could take many months.

How long does it take?

It is important to note that this process takes up to eight weeks from the date the office receives a valid application.

The process cannot be fast-tracked or prioritised so it is important to plan ahead for your start date, or for when your current permission is due to expire.

There are 9 weeks between the 24th January and the 31st March, so time will be tight. Planning approval will depend on the number of objections that are lodged and if any group decided to take it to a higher level such as injunctions or asking for a judicial review. The original proposal was held up by OCC whilst they consulted with various parties and the same could happen again. The Greens will no doubt object along with the LibDems, they managed to drag out the original proposal for an additional 11 months. This is far from a done deal and the club do need to start thinking about dates for public meetings to be held in early 2023 Giving details of the positives of this new project.

Karl had about 3 questions to answer, the first was about 20-25 minutes in, so a bit awkward that the main man, was left hanging about for so long :)

I think this is because everyone has become so utterly tired of hearing the same rubbish over and over. We want some new voices with something interesting and coherent to say.

Here's what I posted earlier about this:

In regard to the stadium planning situation, I think some of you are getting confused with what you thought you heard last night.

The club intend to put in a detailed PLANNING APPLICATION by the end of March, not to have PLANNING APPROVAL by that date.

It was always the intention to put the application in by the end of this year, or at latest in the first quarter of 2023, so in reality we have lost 3 months at the most from the original programme. It was then assumed that approval would take 12 months, until the end of 2023. During this period lots of other planning/design/tender preparation work could still be carried out. It may well be that we make up the 3 months, and still get approval by the end of 2023, or it may be that it drifts until the end of March 2024, but this still gives us two and a half years for construction, so still a very achievable schedule.

Firstly well done Sarge and UptheUs for the questions, really liked UptheUs challenging Karl.

I have heard from people in the room saying it was a good operation. Watching with 355 others on YouTube (live) I have to say, I wasn't impressed with some of the panel. I thought Niall spoke very well and articulately (noting and praising supporters), I thought Stevie K answered his questions well and as expected, I was most impressed, with Liam Gilbert. A very impressive young man/coach.

Wasn't impressed with Tim W and to a lesser extent GF. Tim W seems to be more interested in Kelvin Thomas level of detail - sorting out kit, sorting out merchandise problems and supply, speaking to iFollow, surely that's not what he's been brought in for?

They seem to have little understanding of some of the feeling and apathy amongst the fanbase. If 25-30 in attendance doesn't tell them that, well, what hope do we have.
Interesting comment you made about Tim Williams, what role did you envisage him having? Outside of football the club wasn't functioning as well as it should.

I’m not sure what remit CEO’s usually have at football clubs but he seems more than happy to leave all football related matters to KR. As has been mentioned, he was embarrassed to even discuss anything relating to the playing side in the company of KR. To me it still seems that there is a gaping DoF shaped hole in the structure of the football club. The top table should have consisted of Chairman, CEO and DoF discussing all strategic matters with the first team coach of the mens and womens teams and academy director talking specifics within their fields. Again Karl appeared to answer questions with both DoF, and mens first team coach, hats on.

Edit: Not forgetting Niall McWilliams of course, who I also felt spoke very well.

Ffs.
Can’t understand a word.
Can we have subtitles please
Subtitles are available. Just click on the CC button at the bottom of the screen......however, they are autogenerated, and really struggle with the Scottish and Liverpudlian accents.
Makes for very entertaining reading though :)

When Tim Williams was appointed, I was amazed that we had someone in charge with such an extraordinary level of experience in football. The guy has worked at a high level at the likes of Inter and Man U, as well as a number of other high profile sporting institutions. He undoubtedly knows his stuff very deeply, especially on football finance.

The slight worry is that he has never been the top guy before, and hasn't had leadership roles outside of directing financial professionals. And the job of a great CEO is to manage everyone at the organization, including those on the football side. He shouldn't be telling them what to do or micro-managing, but should be discussing and providing resources and holding them accountable for delivery. The question was always how well he was going to stand up to a big personality like KR.

Suffice to say after last night, it's still a slight worry.......

One thing that struck me was that some of the information regarding the triangle being a more " straightforward " option could have been clarified before the forum, most of the info came from answers to questions, if those questions had not been asked, would the information been revealed

Really don’t like to see TW hugging KR before games either. They shouldn’t be mates.
I’d far rather see a camp united, supporting each other and working together than a fractured, hostile or worse yet absent leadership. Very few people would thrive in an environment where their bosses don’t have faith in their ability and show that support in an almost too-obvious way. Some people would look at Karl post-match 6 to 8 weeks ago and say he needs a slap. Others will have thought he needs an arm around him and taking out the spotlight somehow. TW might have chosen a mixture but he’s hardly going to torch him in public. And this is a football club - match days are the most vital time to be supporting him.

I’m sure there is a very clear hierarchy. These people aren’t rich kids looking for something to do in their spare time. Karl is lucky to have them to learn from and there is a visible difference in his demeanour which either means he is listening to their advice, taking demands from them or both. Either way they’ve had an impression on him and if they’re going to stick with him, that’s all you can ask. He’s slowly but surely getting back in line.

All of that may well be true but I can’t take TW serious when he keeps saying the aim this season is promotion. He’s living in cuckoo land.

Next time they could ask for any stadium related questions first, then move on to first team matters, then academy and last of all general questions on admin, ticketing etc. This would help the flow of the meeting
