Current Player #9 Mark Harris

Hi guys

57 year Bluebirds supporter here, with a soft spot for Oxford having spent 3 years in your lovely city back in the 70's. Stood on the terraces of the old Manor Ground many times and even took in some away games during that time.

Well retired now and living abroad, but do keep an eye on your fortunes, especially as there has been a bit of a player exchange in recent years ...... Gavin Whyte, Curtis Nelson to us, Ciaran Brown, Josh Murphy and Sparky to you. You have Wildchut too who was with Cardiff for part of a season a few years back.

Mark Harris went off like a house on fire for you, but I haven't seen any mention of him recently. Is he injured?

He got a straight red card and was suspended for three games. He's back now and played last night.

Welcome!

As said already, he got a straight red for throwing an arm. He’ll learn from it I’m sure.

He’s doing a great job. Missed a one-on-one last night but has already scored some excellent goals, is tireless in his pressing, and has surprisingly good hold up play.

We look to score from lots of different players, so the pressure is off him from scoring a huge amount of goals (but if he does so, so much the better!)

Welcome to the forum. Wildchut has now departed, he left after an injury-hit season where he hardly played last year. He's now at Exeter, and nearly scored against us on his return to The Kassam a few games back.

He gave away a penalty last night as well.

Stats say Harris is performing no worse or no better than he should be with the chances he's receiving.

Correct me if I'm wrong but xG takes no account of how 'bad' the miss is.

So identical situations before the player rolls it harmlessly 10 yards wide / does an airshot and lands on his a**e / has a shot stopped by the save of the century all appear as the same.

As such it's hardly the full story on a forwards form.

The xGoT does deal with that though. He's done better with getting decent shots on target from his chances than you'd expect on average. (He apparently has an xGoT of 5.15, meaning his shots on target themselves would on average result in about 5 goals. Tends to suggest he's been unlucky rather than rubbish. And that doesn't even include the times he hit the woodwork, also unlucky.)

Forget stats, my eyes don’t deceive me. Harris is missing gilt edged chances. He’s had chances he’s fluffed and there have been chances where he’s just not there. I can’t remember the game at home a few weeks back where four balls were put across the face of goal, an out and out goal scorer helps himself to two of those at least. Decent enough player With a great work ethic but a goal scorer he isn’t.

In fairness, the scoreboard does the same.

You really aren’t seeing the wider picture, are you? We are the top scorers in the league, partly because Harris does what he does. No, he isn’t an “out and out goalscorer”, but his intelligent movement and pace has created plenty of chances for others.
I really don’t believe that, as a team, we would have scored as many goals - or won as many matches - with a six yard box poacher up there instead.
Give the boy some credit…..

Iam sure we will have a striker coming in but he does at least keep getting in those positions. I can't remember Odonker making or even having a shot.

There were a couple passages of play in the chelsea match that summed up Harris and GOD for me. GOD got played a through ball leaving him potentialy one on one with the keeper. He daudled or wasnt fast enough and decided to cut inside letting the defender back goal side with the chance fizzling out. Harris had a similar chance and went for goal and scored.

I’m bloody confused as well as on the top post he says he’s not good enough for a promotion push and then by the bottom post he’s in Team Harris’s camp. Seems a pretty swift change of heart on the same day, then again I haven’t got a clue what he’s on about!
The top post states narrative and the bottom post reality..
