Home Match Day Thread +++ 23/12/2017 OUFC v Wigan Athletic match day thread +++

Just watched ifollow interview where Pep is more apologetic but he doesn't do angry as well as Mapp remembering fhe Cambridge debacle ...which was just as unacceptable.

We have a rule up in the SSU which is when we go 5 down we leave, never have we had to obey the rule, today we did so and on 54 mins we walked out, I could not care less we let in 2 more as it was slow, slow and more slow.

Xemi might have well played for them, nobody had any idea of basic footy, I reckon me at 61 would have run faster then they did, hopeless to a man and I felt sorry for Eastwood as never before could have picked seven out of his net.

Clotet is losing his way, we need two up front and speed to get it to them, if we don’t improve by the end of Feb then kick him out.

I also managed to stay until the end.

What a fecking shambles, from start to finish to post match managerial crap-spouting.

I thought we were bad against Doncaster and were lucky to win, by all accounts Rochdale was awful, we were lucky in the rubbish cup - this result is sadly not a real surprise, but the sheer awfulness of the performance was an eye-opener. We gifted them goals as if it was Christmas, with the usual rotten passing along the back to blame (and there were more that weren't punished - so let's not have the 'every time they attacked they scored' excuse), hardly made a tackle, had our first shot after more than an hour and looked as if we were a non-league outfit facing a prem team.

And then for Clotet to spout nonsense about us being a 'young team', to say that we were on the front foot at the start of the game (in the first 10 minutes we conceded three corners before conceding the first goal), to say the team would learn (yeah, right!) and to shrug his shoulders and say 'these things happen' (umm. No. This was a record home defeat. It has NEVER happened before) - is all completely unacceptable.

It is time for Eales to sh!t or get off the pot. If he is going to sell the club - sell it. If he isn't then he needs to decide what to do about the poor squad and drastically underachieving manager. Fast.

This might read to some as harsh, but the truth is it’s very fair.

As regards his 'young team' comment, he might of course been referring to their 'playing age together (a few months), rather than their chronological age/s.

That said, I am not convinced that he has the technical ability or basic "grit" required to lead this team forward. On the previous forum I predicted a mid table finish at best at the start of the season. Charlie disagreed with this saying that we had a good coach, talented players etc. I keep an open mind in these things, but I fear I may be right.
I also think that (and again, previously posted) what is/isn't happening behind the scenes strongly effects performances. Does anyone remember David Kemp saying "they seem to find new ways to lose each week", and Joe Kinnear's reference to "muppetts"?

As much as both characters were odious, they were right. What was happening behind the scenes was atrocious and no way to run a club as we all discovered. Whilst I wouldn't put Eales in the same camp as Kassam, I would definitely put money on a continued decline in performances whilst the uncertainty of the club's future remains.

Mr Eales,
Talk to us.........

I think today was an insight into the team which we 'could' have been had Appleton stayed. Hungry, high pressing, physical and quick - Wigan were all of those things today and i believe that we could have been had we retained the core of the team and the spirit which we have had in the last few years as well as the manager. Watching Dunkley fit seamlessly into their side showed that we weren't far off and yet we have gone back a long way in a short space of time. I don't just blame Clotet, the funds have been turned down to a minimum, the recruitment process has altered beyond recognition and the only 'signings' we will be making in January are those returning from injury. Eales has checked out emotionally and financially and it's this which is affecting the club right now. The sooner the club can be sold to a new custodian the better as far as i am concerned. Thanks for the memories DE but it's time to move on.

And, I shall be there in the SSU on New Years Day. I expect to be rewarded, but will bring my boots in the event I will be required!!

I have not seen a worse display from an OUFC team in decades of support, that I had family with me who were coming to see 'what the fuss is all about' - made things even worse. I was embarrassed, ashamed and bloody angry, yet at the same time we in the North stand enjoyed some 'gallows humour' clapping and cheering ferociously when we had a corner!! Rows of people must have thought there was a fire drill and were streaming out at 'only' 3-0!! It really was pathetic, and listening to clot head on Radox didn't help my mood at all, the man's delusional and a fantasist. One thing he's not, a manager. At most clubs in our division he'd be on his bike, instead I wouldn't be surprised if another trip to Spain wasn't in the offing in the new year. Fcking livid.

Did you miss the Darren Patterson period? If so lucky you.

Who’s bottom of league 2, Forest Green? They would have givenWigan more of a game. Wigan were good but we failed to reach the acceptable level of professionalism and ability. It was a mixture of terrible tactics and a basic failure to be ‘up for it’, one of the most important qualities in sport.

To be fair, his track record as a manger is a failure. I thought this time it would be different but it doesn’t look like it.
Problem is upstairs, what chance of getting a decent manager in if the club is in limbo?
But if we do get rid, then the time is now. No point being embarrassed so badly, then keeping the manager on to lose a few more games by the odd goal or two. I’d make a statement now, put Chrissy in charge and see what happens.

Didn’t go today as I had to go to the pantomime in Oxford with the family ( I’ll leave everyone to insert their obvious gags..) but, ok we were never going to be world beaters this season, but this simply isn’t good enough and Pep needs to come out and admit it. Having said that I don’t think the blame should all be laid at his door. I agree with the above, DE has a lot to answer for. He had a perfect opportunity to sell on at least one occasion but chose not to. He needs to make clear to the paying customers what his plans are going forward

I’ve thought of a silver lining from this debacle - Jack Payne is less likely to be recalled or sold! He was worse than useless and that shows Championship clubs how easy he can get knocked off the ball at that level. We all know he’s a great League one player though and we need to keep guy.

I’ve seen some sh!t in my 40 years of watching the U’s but today must rank as one of the worst days
(nothing i don’t think will trump the Orient defeat and relegation in ‘06) but the set up , tactics, approach,
application etc. was shocking. I was numb watching that dross and then Clotet’s pathetic post match reaction
was nauseating. A truly terrible day all round - shameful and embarrassing.

There will be more to come though - I am sure of that, unfortunately.

Just listened to Pep's interview on RadOx. He said quote "football is a game of mistakes" - what a philosophy - training hard to make them happen it appears!

How many shots did we have on target?

I bet that was Wigans easiest game of the season today and I can deal with losing if I feel our lads gave their all. Yet again today they were gutless in my view and I cannot accept that!

When the first goal went in I noticed a couple of our players kneeled down pretending to be messing with their boots. To me they looked like they had already chucked it which is not acceptable...

I absolutely agree with that. I have never been more disgusted than I was today. Back in the Bird by half time and I mean the pub not the bit I. The si

I’m conflicted. I don’t like the sacking mentality in football, but at the same, I honestly can’t see how Pep will turn things around. Tactically he seems to have a singular approach. In terms of transfer dealings, I don’t have much faith based on the players he has signed so far, that he can recruit the players we need. Would I trust him with a substantial amount of money? I’m not sure.

We’ve conceded at least 3 goals in more games this season than the whole of last season. I’m talking about the league, obviously, can’t really include cup competitions because we were knocked out so early this year.

The thing that gets me as much as anything though is the post match comments. Losing 0-7 is unacceptable, trying to suggest anything else is downright insulting to the fans. It felt like he was twisting the knife.

I’m sure some Scum fans are reading this thread for laughs - you’re still C***s and you’re still in League 2. Twats. :)
