Home Match Day Thread +++ 01/01/2018 OUFC v MK Dons match day thread +++

Much better. Brilliant game by Gino, u can see he’s more comfortable out wide than as the lone striker. Few brilliant crosses today, could easily have had 3 assists and a goal if other had finished chances on a plate. My motm would have been ruffels though, brilliant today, great through ball for obika. Much more effort all round, same again sat and things will be looking a lot brighter

Sending off is a pain but at least we are back in track. Good to see mehmeti involved too

Great result, and it seems as though the players genuinely did put in a shift today.

I wonder if we'll be signing a left back in the coming days....

Now would be a good time for Pekalski to be available, allow Ruffels to go LB. Wonder who will play there, given Tiendelli and Carroll both have before. Regardless, big win, proves there are teams worse than us that will go down this season.

(Yellow River to start the next thread as well)

Season average
OUFC have 1 shot on target from every 2.29 shots They convert the shot on target into a goal every 3.41 shots on target
MKD have 1 shot on target from every 2.77 shots They convert the shot on target into a goal every 3.73 shots on target

Total shots for both teams are similar and both teams have conceded a similar number of goals.
Based on the numbers I predict a narrow OUFC win if we shoot or a draw if we try and walk it in.....
2 up front works! Our shots on target ratio was 1.82:) Goal conversion 2.33

If you take the stance that we should be winning home games and accept picking up points on the road, our form since the Northampton game hasn't actually been that bad. Obviously 7-0 is chastening, but on paper our home form (losses against the division's two 'big boys' and wins against teams we should be beating (Donny, MK)) isn't actually too bad. Similarly, if you see anything picked up on the road as a bonus rather than taken for granted, a win against Plymouth, draws with Southend, Rochdale and Gillingham and a solitary loss against a Bradford side who are one of the best teams in the league is not actually that bad. So all in all, as frustrating as conceding last minute equalisers is and as embarrassing as getting pumped 7-0 at home was, we're not, on paper, actually doing too poorly at the minute. And this is without two of our best players.

(Before I get eaten alive by Pep-Outers, I will concede that I haven't been able to attend a game since Walsall, so this take is purely objective. But, objectively, we're not as in the s**t as some seem to think.)

Nice to be coming home in a good mood. I don't think the game was as comfortable as the scoreline suggests. Defo squeaky bum time for the last 10 15 minutes. Let's hope we can build on this and push forward.

Anyone know why the Ultras were so quiet? Funny atmosphere in rmtge East Stand this afternoon.

Thought we played well on the whole today. We seemed to lack a bit of confidence in the first half, probably understandably, but in the second half we were comfortably the better side.

Thought Martin was MOM. I’ve never been a fan of his, but he defended very well and looked much more composed today. His best match for the club.

Van Kessel also had a much better game. Actually looked capable of controlling the ball and getting involved in the link up play. One thing that cannot be ignored when he plays is that his pace gives defenders problems and creates more space in key areas.

Mehmeti looked like he could be quite useful (if he stays fit). He definitely worked hard and showed a bit more pace than I thought he had!

For the record, didn’t see Tiger in the directors’ box!

I`ll take that........... poor old doom mongers will be desperately seeking the failings in a comfortable win...

To be fair, it's not like we won this game playing the same style of football as we have over the last month. If anything, it's vindicated the doom mongers to an extent. And we still conceded from a corner after scoring our first.

Nervous. We still don't look convincing, but have done well to go in ahead.

I am impressed with GVK's work ethic off the ball, from both Bradford and today. He's pressing the opposition, and causing them to go backwards or make mistakes. He's still extremely hit and miss with the ball, but I think he's identified a way to keep his spot in the team - work hard.
I thought he was really good today. He has Dunkley’s head though.

I believe Pekalski has been in training, no?

A little perplexing for sure
I think his natural instinct is to go forward and to be honest, given our defensive frailties. I think attack is the best form of defence at the moment.

Today showed that the panic over relegation from some is misguided and unnecessarily negative. 2 average L1 teams playing out a decent game and we looked a far more competent side in that scenario. The midfield is still a concern because they don't track runners well at all and set pieces are so inconsistent. Not all great, it has to be said, but not all bad either. Having a player like GvK in the team gives us a different outlet and something for oppo to think about - not sure why people so critical of him today. I thought Wes did well in the hole today and Obika looked a menace if he had the ball under control. Better going forward when given the time on the ball. Happy for the players and management today.

The sending off was correct, but it was a shame the officials missed the naughty challenge on Richardinho seconds before. It was as horrible, but the player missed contact.

Some of our fans are utter jokes. I was embarrassed at some of the unintelligent drivel that some fans were coming out with - I dread to think what some day trippers next to me thought about it as they didn't look impressed. Cringeworthy is the politest way to describe it.

Sorry people/ Jerome but I was at the game today so apologies for the late posts. 1st half wasn’t special neither were they but going in at half time 2-1 with GVK’s goal just before half time was what was needed. As has been pointed by one or two people I didn’t go to Bradford Jeromebur the 2nd half today was a complete turn around for Oxford we played with more passion got stuck in and it paid dividends with Obika getting the 3rd which maid a refreshing change. Also only 9 Pages so far which shows the feeling of fans when we play well and win.
One bad point Richardino’s challenge not needed and unnecessary so missing for 3. This challenge on the right wing and him being a Left Back.
A bit of gossip apparently a done deal for Payne to go back to Huddersfield with Wilder taking him, that will be a blow.
Essexyellows is that ok for you or are you going to criticise?

Van Kessell, Payne, Mehmeti. We have a lot of pace for a side with absolutely no pace.
