Home Match Day Thread ++OUFC V Scunthorpe 30/3/18 Match Thread++

I said I’d accept a draw and that’s what we got.

One step closer to safety.

Great turnaround kr obviously said the right thing at ht.

I've been to a few matches where a draw felt like a loss, put this was a draw felt like a win. Can't be complacent but I feel a by happier for the first time in ages.

Not convinced that Robinson is right about 50 points being enough, especially when 4 go down

I can't see MK Dons or Northampton getting more than 49 points, Bury are gone and Rochdale not much better. So yes, 50 points should be enough.

But anyone who thinks Robinson will settle for just enough hasn't been listening for the last week!

midfield really stepped up in the second half. Could have won it in the end encouraged by kr"s tactical changes wouldnt have happened under pep

Good work everyone - a step closer

Really, Jon?
I am not sure about a point at home being a step nearer. We have the top three to play away. Let's assume we lose all those.
So then we need six points from our five other games to get to 52. It would be unwise to bet the house on the total needed being less than that.
Our GD may well take a battering from those three away games as well.
I would say that today's result is only a 'point closer ' if we get something from Monday's game. The sad truth is that since our bright start to the season we have 34 points from 32 games. That is relegation form over a very extended period. We have been remarkably consistently bad!

First half was utter dross. Off the pace, tactics wrong but we just about got away with it. Once we marked them out wide, they didn't do much and we looked a far better team with Rothwell playing in the hole. The penalty was a bit soft, but some fouls given were softer. The CBs did a better job on Toney in the 2nd half and he really drifted from the game. Scunny will be annoyed at letting that game go.

Drysdale hasn't got any better as a Ref. Too happy to get the cards out for one foul, letting the persistent stuff go.

Let’s remember though we won’t pick up any points against top ten teams apart from Pompey that didn’t count. Oh apart from Charlton and peterbrough and a point against scunny.

Only you can turn the term a point nearer into it not being true. Who ever we play next, if it’s at home or away it’s still a bloody point nearer, due to the fact we have now 1 more point than we did this morning. Also have u checked the other results most are going our way. So while u still can’t see us picking up the points you are convinced that others in equally poor form will not only get more points than we do, but also collect the 5 extra they need just to catch us.

You really do suck every ounce of joy out of life don't you? Get a grip man, you make yourself look more foolish and bitter with every post.

And what is relegation form with out relegation? Totally irrelevant! We will stay up so cash your bet in and go away and find something positive to focus on.

PS keep up the good work!!

Robinson has really impressed me since he's come in. His PR game has been really good and his post-match interview today was excellent - so refreshing to hear a manager say that we were "rubbish" first half. But I also think he responded really well to the goal today, and showed he knew how to turn it around after the 'rubbish'. After that corner when Brannagan went down, he had EVERY other outfield player over and gave them a talking-to. Switched the shape to a 4-1-4-1, stopped us getting beat down the wings every time, shored us up. And then obviously a rocket at half time, which pushed us on and got us the point. Very good in every respect. Excited to have him as out manager moving forward.

Make no mistake though, we didn't deserve anything from today. They hit the woodwork twice, had two goal line clearances (one that looked suspiciously like an arm from Dickie), had the ball bobble over the strikers boot from 5 yards out... And then that absolute joke of a penalty. Feel for Scunny, as bad as we predominantly were I quite enjoyed watching them. Toney is a great L1 target man and that 16 had ASB on TOAST every time he ran at him with the ball. 19 was a useful little playmaker too.

Finally, one absolute dickhead a few rows behind me with his mates in the OM. "Is this a library?" and "We make no noise when we're at home" chanted throughout and "Cheerio, Cheerio, Cheerio" to an elderly lady who was leaving a bit early. Not like it ruined my afternoon, but it's just like, why are you being such a dick? Honestly don't get the mentality - what makes you some sort of super-fan that gives you the right to mock everyone else? Just a sad c**t. (Incidentally, thought the rest of our support was very good today - that one chorus of "Robinson's yellow army" went around for a good few minutes, great stuff)

Of course we have been very bad. But surely now is a time to look forward. There’s a great book to be written about the bizarre foreign signings in the summer, mind. Since none of them play we’re having to create a team as we go

Bless. Little Scotchers is all angry. Must be the people he spends his weeks with.
I saw this coming; you did not because you have no judgement or understanding of the game.
Yes, I am irritated - maybe even bitter - that a club which was in such a good position this time last year has frittered its position away so wilfully with bad decision after bad decision. The fact that you take such joy in our current position is just weird.

I find it weird that despite being shown to have lied on numerous occasions you still feel that anything you say has any credibility at all. Let's be honest, the train set owning fantasist is a description that sits far closer to home than it does with Tiger.

We have loads of positives coming out of the club at the moment, including that 2nd half performance and leadership from KR. Added to everything else behind the scenes leads me to believe we are in a much better position than you make out. I find it weird that you can't see any of this?

No bickering, please. We are all on the same side. No division in the ranks. Please God, another point or more on Monday.

Yes we do need to look forward , however until we start performing at a level needed to ensure we stay up, it’s a very nervous topi even for all. It’s ok being told to be positive, but even though we have a good manager, he is being tested to the full.

We were really lucky to get a point today. They were by far the better team in the first half and could have gone in three or four up at the break. Not seen either incident back, but I’m pretty sure they had two very good shouts for a penalty (especially taking into account the rather cheap one that we were given), and had a couple of shots cleared off the line. We were utter dross and couldn’t string two passes together.

We improved in the second half but by no would I say we played well. The change of shape stopped the overload the had on the wings, but Toney and Holmes still looked dangerous and we still struggled to keep any momentum going.

I think the biggest problem that we have is a lack of outlets and pace. All of our play is in front of teams, so it’s so easy for them to press high. We need to find a way of asking more questions of opposition defenders, and making them have to turn more. The personnel we have at our disposal limits what we can do, because we are a team full of small, slow players. But Robinson needs to find a solution sooner rather than later.

I probably would have taken a point before the match, so can’t grumble too much, but that was not a good performance by any stretch of the imagination. We need to improve before the crucial run of three home games that we’ve got coming up.
