Rumours circling that Cadden has been made a late offer to join Hibs to replace the outgoing Josh Doig. I was only thinking to myself earlier I don’t understand why an SPL side is not in for a Scottish player doing so well in the EFL. Given Lee Johnson’s EFL connections and the signings he’s made already, I can see this one having legs and might better explain why he didn’t join Barnsley as expected on Friday. Oh… and the fact his brother is there 😂. Would be extremely appealing to him if true.

Purely from experience, most footballers aren’t actually arsed about playing football. It’s just their job. I would go as far as saying that far more than 50% of them view it as nothing more than their occupation. They often aren’t any more passionate about football than someone who sells conservatories is about PVC frames. More players than you would think actively dislike the game, let alone treat it as a job. I absolutely guarantee you that at OUFC right now, and at every single other club in the 92, there are multiple players who do not enjoy their job. We will have more than one player on the books who does not like being a footballer, but it’s something they’re good at and pays them more money than they could earn otherwise.

It’s mostly just about cash. A few exceptions and some players adore the game and can’t believe their luck (they aren’t difficult to spot), but they’re the exceptions rather than the rule.
There must be cases though where a player has some similar offers and is swayed by degree of schmoozing, perceived prospects, or setting - as with Cadden maybe preferring Edinburgh to Bicester or Barnsley

Would it be ‘extremely appealing’ though to link up with his brother ? I think if I was in that position I’d want to forge my own career path and play elsewhere. Also making a name for yourself in England, albeit third tier, will carry a lot more weight than the easy option of playing with your brother back home. A progressive L1 side would be a better move than Hibs at this stage of his career.

We were once talking about having both Cadden's here and I don't think anyone was rushing to talking about them forging their own paths then!

I agree in part. Starting with football reasons, the opportunity to play at Ibrox and Celtic Park is a dream for majority of Scottish players. They see the SPL in a slightly different light to us English-born so the novelty is unlikely to wear off quickly for him up there - he’ll be proud to play there. Hibs are having a bit of a rebrand, Lee Johnson is a good coach and they’re having a go so it’s a decent project - not your typical no-hoper; might scrape a cup or a europa league qualification like Aberdeen managed not so long ago.

Personally, he gets to go home and live closer to his extended family without compromising on wage. I can only presume he and his brother are close and if they are, what an opportunity for them that they may not get again.

I think he’ll have his eyes on at least the championship one day but may feel Hibs is the better platform to do so rather than slug it out for promotion in L1. Very difficult for him to turn down so if we lose out to them, that’s a defeat I can easily accept, disappointing nonetheless.

He’d take up a squad place though and what’s the point if not going to be seriously challenging and pushing others to be in the starting 11 and just don’t think he’d be that! Back up is fine, but we need back up who are either a different type of player and option or who are realistically keeping others on their toes! Not back up because they are cheap!

Jamie Mackie was a “busy” player, which basically meant he ran around a lot but produced very little goal scoring or assist threat. He did entertain with his sh*thousery of course! 😂
No comparison. Mackie was a once decent player whose legs had completely gone. His sole contribution was running around a lot and mouthing off. I just thought he was an embarrassment. Close to zero contribution on the pitch, no matter how good he was for morale off it. Sinclair is only 25, and while his career clearly isn't going to pan out as he once hoped, he showed in his loan spell, he's very capable at L1 level. I thought he worked hard, contributed a lot and showed flashes of why he'd been so rated. If he genuinely wants to play, then I'd be perfectly happy to see us sign him. It will all depend on his motivation, but the fact he's prepared to play for 45 minutes at Banbury is a good sign. And who cares that he turned us down once? So did Matty Taylor. . If he wants to get fit, if he wants to play for the right reasons, and if his wage demands are realistic, then I think he'd be a real squad asset.

The same Sinclair that hasn’t played for a year and clearly hasn’t commanded interest from teams at our level - despite being free?

It is a big no from me. If we’re fishing in the same pond as players like Sinclair then I have suspicions that the Board are not quite as ambitious for this season, as has been suggested when talk of budgets have come up.

Sinclair’s numbers speak volumes and I certainly don’t think we should be encouraged by 45 mins at Banbury. In fact, he should be grateful for the opportunity!

How dare you overlook the Weatherstones so casually.
That's funny (for me);because I picked my son up today from an air cadets event and when I was speaking to one of the other dads, he mentioned that he was with OUFC when he was 14, ended up at Wallingford (I think) and he was mates with the Weatherstones.

Would you like a bigger shovel. You are a casing point. Why not send a post to someone who gives a toss about wounded animals. A wanna be Gripper Stebson?? :ROFLMAO:

No thanks

I`ve been called worse

I thought that was you, it wasnt that long ago you tried to portray yourself as a wounded animal, why do that if
you dont give a toss about them ?

Bless you.

In all fairness I got told by someone within the club that he didn’t want to play last year but now wants to.

That’s very interesting. I wonder what he did all last season, worked a normal job?

I hope it works out for him but if not we won’t lose much, and could gain a player that once went for 4 million
