It's not the medical team that should be scrutinised in that scenario... It's the people who think they know anything about sport science and entitle themselves to criticise the medical team. Majority of us, myself included, don't have a bloody clue.

This is just rotten luck. It's football. It happens. It might be we now up our efforts now to get Rak-Sakyi done as he will see there is an opportunity to play regularly at least until Xmas. Must admit I'm surprised nobody has blamed the manager for this yet!

I'm not suggesting that the scrutiny is fair, only acknowledging that it always happens

A player signed for his explosiveness/pace needing an op.

Whilst Baldock gets a recurrence on a plastic pitch..

I prefer not to comment.
If Baldock is so fragile that he can't trot around in a friendly on a plastic pitch without getting seriously injured then we shouldn't have signed him - selecting him for the City game isn't the issue, surely.

Not for Wildschut but you have to question if Baldock's first game back from a knee injury on City's plastic pitch was a good idea. Subsequently out for two months.

We're a professional football league team who don't play on plastic pitches, there's no need for us to prepare for playing on one as there's only an slim chance of being drawn away to a club with one in the FA Cup.

If both clubs want to continue the annual friendly it should be at Grenoble Road going forward.
I understand the Baldock comment - though, again, I very much expect this was a calculated risk by professionals who know what they're doing. Remember this is the same medical team who have got 25 games out of Billy Bodin in one season - he managed just 43 in total in 3 years at Preston.

I'm not sure this lies at the door of the medical team at all. Another question might be whether Yanic took his warm up seriously bearing in mind he's had no pre season. Perhaps he took it too lightly.

Think the Wildschut injury actually puts more emphasis on the central midfielder gap. We can’t imbalance the squad again like last year, and we could easily move to a 433 rather than a 4231 until he’s recovered.

Exactly.
There could be times in the winter where we may train on a plastic pitch for a while if the weather is bad.
Selecting him for Oxford City surely can't be seen as a huge risk ( Gorrin was obviously classed as more if a risk generally and has Bern eased back after ACL)

Rak-Sakyi is an absolute must!

Yes, Jones is likely to sign, but I will be my B*****s on the fact he gets injured. Just our luck. Frustrating, but it’s not the end of the world!

That is just some damn bad luck for both us and YW. I don't think this should change our priorities in the window, we still have Browne, Murphy, Bodin, Henry and Goodrham that can play out wide and IMO a first choice left back and competition for Long at right back is more important. I suspect we'll up our pursuit of Rak-Sakyi and perhaps offer a little extra to try and get it over the line or go back in for Whyte.
In my opinion both Henry and Bodin lack the pace to be effective in our system out wide, and look much better centrally. Therefore we have two first choice wingers and a youngster available. I’d much rather see Jones and another right/versatile winger sign than a left back, when we have two players who can comfortably play there.

I'd have had him anyway, personally, even with Jones, YW and JM. That would give us 4 wingers and Browne who can effectively play anywhere. Going off video evidence and statistics, he offers something we don't currently have which is a striker-like goal scoring record from a wide position. Something about the fearlessness of youth that I really like as well, particularly in forwards. With a 5 sub rule we could really change a game with these options. Goodrham not to be forgotten either.

If Soccerbase is accurate in saying that Yanic hasn’t played a competitive club match since December of last year, I do wonder if his general fitness levels (or lack of) contributed to his getting injured so quickly. He certainly looked a little ‘bulky’ when he was revealed. If your general fitness and especially your diet aren’t right then your body becomes much more prone to breaking down. Michail Antonio used to have the flimsiest hamstrings in the Premier League - West Ham would be lucky to get half a dozen games out of him before one of them went and kept him out for another two months - but last summer they totally revamped his diet and he played more than 50 games without incident.

Or it could merely be awful luck. I suppose it doesn’t really matter at this point. Hopefully the Palace lad can come in as well as Jones getting a deal, which combined with Murphy and Browne should still mean there are decent options available. Forde is naturally a wide player and was the first choice right winger for Rotherham when they got promoted from L1 a few seasons back, so I think he’s possibly being a little overlooked. Especially if there is a new right back potentially coming in.

Serious question, if we are in for Jones what is the hold up? Is it contract issues and he isn’t happy or is his agent being greedy or are OUFC not prepared to meet his demands.

Think it’s been a bit fiddly due to the terms. Sounds like there is a pay-as-you-play element to it on one end to protect the club in case he breaks down, but also something that says if he makes X appearances then we get to trigger an extension, so that he can’t just walk away in 12 months if he gets fit and shows good form. But if we trigger said extension then the pay-as-you-play element disappears moving forward as the player will have been deemed to have proven his reliability etc. Just lots of little creases to iron out so both sides are happy.

Really happy if this is the case and we retain an option. If he stays fit and is the player he once was then he will be a saleable asset next summer.

Cheers for that. Looks like he indeed came off the bench in May. Wonder how many minutes he played since January - might have a proper look later. Just cos I’m nosy.

As an aside, I see that Alan Pardew was the CSKA manager last season, with former U’s man Alex Dyer as his assistant.
