If he doesn’t make the squad next game then even the deluded ‘it’s fine, it’s normal’ gang will have to wake up.
Des loves a chat about injuries. I think there’s something in the fact he’s not even being asked about Burey from what I’ve seen/heard, let alone not mentioning him off his own back. That feels deliberate at this point. It's a situation where you have to speculate if something's gone on in training. Has he not been putting the effort in? Attitude clash with someone? Or is he carrying an injury that noone's been talking about?
Because, other than his first game, he's caused problems every time he's played with his pace, strength and directness. I would much rather have him as an option to bring on than sticking two fullbacks on the bench. Or two central midfielders, as we had during the week.
Nathan asked him directly about Burey in the post-match interview.Des loves a chat about injuries. I think there’s something in the fact he’s not even being asked about Burey from what I’ve seen/heard, let alone not mentioning him off his own back. That feels deliberate at this point.
Goodrham did score our goal?If he doesn’t start at Pompey after these last two catastrophic team performances then it’s going to be the most bewildering player selection issue that I can recall. I was surprised he didn’t start v Northampton, I was amazed he didn’t make the bench, equally surprised he didn’t start today and, well, just staggered that he didn’t make todays bench. I think he’s looked good and has something a bit different - genuine pace and an ability to just swing the ball in to the box. I don’t think he picks out players as such but he whips it in early and leaves it up to the strikers to make the runs - exactly how it should be.
It’s clear the recruitment team earmarked him during the KR era and I’m fairly sure DB wont have scouted him in Denmark in the last three months. Seems like Des is at odds with recruitment on Burey and he’s the one who’s ultimately looking the mug. Neither Tyler ‘45 minute’ Goodrham or Murphy did much today to convince anyone. Dale has looked our best wide player of late but he doesn’t possess Bureys unpredictability or raw pace.
Burey must start at Portsmouth.
Another dig at a 20 year old who already has 10 goals this season. If he doesn’t start at Pompey after these last two catastrophic team performances then it’s going to be the most bewildering player selection issue that I can recall. Goodrham did score our goal?
Yes, like the side has put together more than a good half if that in the majority of matches but let's call out our most promising playerYes, he did, what’s your point though ? Very good player who could become a great player for us. Currently struggles to put together a performance for 90 minutes though. Probably to do with his age but, in my opinion, he’s a very effective 45 minute performer.

Which players have been great for 10 minutes let alone a match winner on a few occasions.
So 3 or 4 players out of the entire squad but you choose to call out a 20 year old winger .Moore, in the main Brannagan, McGuane for 3 or 4 months, Brown. These have all been better than 10 minute players. I’d say these generally perform for best part of 90 minutes although Brown and McGuane, of late, haven’t been. Moore though is a model of consistency.
You said he didn’t do much to convince anyone yesterday, I’m convinced he scored a very good goal.Yes, he did, what’s your point though ? Very good player who could become a great player for us. It’s a waste of time trying to reason with Dick, he is still waiting for the Qataris to take over his one true love, Man United.Another dig at a 20 year old who already has 10 goals this season.
Who did play well yesterday Dick and who deserves their place btw but you love to criticise one player, bizarre .
Burey should be on the bench ,and it's been surprising that he hasn't been rather than completely out of the squad .
sonny perkins 2.0
Nail on headI wonder if the problem with Burey is that he has little tactical ‘nous’ and is therefore unreliable/unpredictable during matches when we need structure and discipline ( all the time, really, I suppose!) I have noticed that he always gets a lot of instructions from the sidelines about where to position himself and often glances towards the bench for advice.
Nothing essentially wrong with that, of course; but the manager can’t constantly be telling him what to do and where to go.
Just a thought.
