If we have the money available to spend 750k on Hardie, then I’d rather 500k was spent on an LB. You get more value for money, despite there being a smaller pool to buy from.
Seriously?
£500k on a left back?
It seems that it is likely that the left backs will be one of Seddon, Brown or Long.
If that does happen ( personally I would have tried to offload Seddon in summer and replace him), people are going to accept it. Ultimately KR has his job on the line.

Given up all hope on a CDM so I'm just really hoping for some strong additions at full-back. If we're still able to drop substantial fees on players, I'd like that to go on RB and LB - happy for the striker and winger to be young loans tbh.

I don't think we will see much transfer business between us and Blackpool for a few windows....

I hope we make a series of low ball offers for a permanent move over a couple of weeks just to irritate them. If they agree to one, then go back and say actually we can only pay this smaller amount. Combine all of their transfer approach shenanigans into one.

Wonder if they've got a few release clauses we could trigger for a bit of fun...

Long can play left back or CB. It looks like there will be another RB
So “Super Sam” will spend the season being deployed all across the back line again, meaning for all his commitment and endeavour, he will be unsettled and his performances will understandably be a little inconsistent, and he will then be criticised for not being good enough, when he once again hasn’t been allowed to settle into one role, and to make one position his own 🙄

That said, although I’m confident in Long’s ability, he’s prone to injury, and needs genuine cover for any injuries, and direct competition to push him to his levels of a couple of seasons ago, so a right back is needed, and Sam will need to step up if he wants to retain a starting place.

But we are DESPERATE for a specialist left back, and have been for a number of years, Seddon or Brown are not going to be good enough as first choice.

It amazes me that KR seems to learn nothing from our repeated defensive injury crisis every season due to lack of genuine cover/competition in that area, and poor defensive record every season.

A patched up defence, means inevitably leaking goals, meaning the attacking players need to win us the game every week, which won’t happen.

A rock solid defence allows the attacking players more freedom to flow forward and do their thing, attack.

It’s time he realised that a strong defence is the foundation that successful sides are built on, and he needs to stop naively neglecting that area of the squad, and stock up, so we are ALWAYS able to put a strong back line out, to make us harder to beat each and every week.

From Barnet si may prefer a move closer to home . Bate, a Londoner too, mentioned this in his interview yesterday.

Hardie would be my preference however given his experience. I always wonder how these young lads will perform against experienced pros with 200 plus games under their belts who know every trick in the book.

If it were easy we'd have seen the PL under 21 sides win the Papa John's every year.

I don’t think many criticised Long when he was at centre back last season. In fact I think he played pretty well there mostly. I just believe we’re coming to the end of seeing him as a right back, as he’s just losing a bit of pace and attacking confidence, but he can still be a very solid L1 central defender…

What do you think improves us more?

750k on Hardie or 500k on a very good LB?

My argument is slightly weaker as I couldn’t actually give you a name of a player that fits the bill, but we’re more likely to find better cover/competition for Taylor via loan than we are for Seddon.

We will continue to be undone by the best sides with Seddon at LB.

I agree with you, for a team who adamantly plays possession based football and playing through our fullbacks, it's amazing how people undervalue them.

I don’t disagree, but if that’s gonna be the case, then make Long and Brown the backup CB, and bring in 2 RB and a LB, otherwise we’ll end up playing CB’s at full back to cover injuries and lack of options at full back.

Looks like we won’t have any new ones in for tomorrow (hopefully wrong), at least the squad is two players stronger than last Saturday.
