National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Not sure anyone said this was all down to Brexit...did they?

But whilst the rest of the world is currently eating a shite sandwich, in part served up by Putin, we have been served up with a double decker club shitsandwich, with an extra side of shite because of Brexit (and our incompetent government) :)

Sweden moves to the right.

"Issues around immigration have been simmering for a long time, pointing out that Sweden has received among the highest number of asylum seekers per capita in the world over the last few years.
This, and a perceived increase in violent crime may explain the surge in support for the SD, a party which has not only campaigned on both issues for years, but has rose to prominence with its controversial claim that the two are inextricably linked."

Aren`t open borders a good thing? 🤷‍♂️

Wonder how much Russia are spending on de-stablising a neighbouring democracy.....their modus operandi is still working it seems

I note you say perceived increase in violent crime. Is it not actually increasing then? ( by the way, no it isn't: https://www.government.se/articles/2017/02/facts-about-migration-and-crime-in-sweden/).

Could it be that people have (yet again) been manipulated to be angry about something without being in possession of the facts and have voted accordingly?

Oh Vlad....you are a naughty one:rolleyes:

One hates to say it but those people who go and vote will vote on their lived experience not what they read on line.

Mass migration, that does not integrate with the society they are joining, creates problems. 🤷‍♂️

Two sides to every coin: "Ms Andersson blamed criminals and took aim at both radical Islamists and right-wing extremism which she claimed has been allowed to fester in Sweden."

But rather than try to make integration a priority, the voting public have decided to sod that and to swallow the rhetoric of the far right (it's the immigrunts what did it). The obvious problem being that the Far Right are part of the problem to begin with.

All sounding bit 1930's Germany if you ask me 🤷‍♂️

Integration is a two way street...both sides have to want to integrate and plenty want nothing of the sort on both sides and some of the reasoning behind that is pretty abhorrent.

As for lived experience....really?

You think the majority have been in any way directly affected by this? - I very much doubt it (just as the majority are not affected by any perceived problems with migrants in the UK). As is the case here, people have been whipped up to think this is a massive problem and that it affects them in some way, when it really isn't at all.

Much in the same way people here were convinced by some that their lives were made worse by us being in the EU :)

Why is it that some people feel the need to give Brexit such a rearguard defence?

It almost promotes the idea that the Brexit benefits can’t speak for themselves.

As previously mentioned disentangling us from the 40 or so years of the EU parasite will take time.

It could never happen quickly. 🤷‍♂️

So you now agree it was sold on lies. We're getting somewhere now. download (1).jpeg

Does it bother you that you probably won't be around in 40 years time to see if you were right or wrong. You'll never know for sure which way it goes...

There was that Leys Boy prat on here who made out that migrants crossing the channel was a really big problem, although he’d probably never even seen a dinghy

I’m not aware of having had any problems in my ‘lived experience’ with immigrants or non-white people. Mainly just with thick aggressive white males

What a lovely bloke. How blessed are we to have such decent people running the country 😐
All we can hope is the good people of Leicester will rid the country of this man at the next election.

The 57-year-old was branded "dishonest" by a High Court judge in March - who ruled that Bridgen "lied" under oath

Is lying under oath a criminal offence? If so, then presumably he could be removed as an MP?

Your approach to Brexit is schizophrenic! One minute you’re rigorously defending every single fibre of this political experiment unprompted.
Then within the space of 36minutes you’re taking a swipe at the intellectual capacity of 17.4 million voters claiming they would hoodwinked into voting for something they’ll never see come to fruition.

It’s like reading something from a Bot Farm that got the tea boy to do the coding.

It will take time.

Nobody knows exactly how long.

That is evolution for you.

Its a bit like cancer surgery, you might need chemo before the surgeon can remove the tumour.

That just sounds like a convenient excuse to avoid any criticism. It also doesn’t explain your bizarre compulsion to justify Brexit at every turn.
If you don’t call out the crap aspects of Brexit, they’ll stay crap.

I don’t understand why so many Brexiteers just loyally toe the line, putting up with whatever nonsense they’re fed? Why not hold the feet to the fire of our elected government and fight for the best Brexit possible.
If they tell you it’s too difficult to remain in the Single Market whist not being a member, tell them NO! Go back and find a way! Likewise with poor trade deals or travel disruption. Make sure you get what you were promised.
This Government have handled Brexit badly. But they’re only going to pay attention to the views of those that vote for them.
