Home Match Day Thread 30/01/2021 L1 OUFC v Fleetwood Town

Horrible weather. Glad I don't have to play in this (or go out and watch in it!). We're getting better at the physical, route one stuff this year, and our newfound prowess from setpieces could see us nick this in these conditions. 3-1 - Moore, Taylor, Long

Stevens
Long Moore Atkinson Ruffels
Gorrin
Henry Brannigan
Agyei Taylor Shodipo

Bench: Eastwood, Forde, Hanson, Kelly, Sykes, Winnall, McNally/Hall

Biggest things for me are:

1. We go back to playing our usual formation, with just Gorrin in front of our back four, rather than a double pivot which we’ve seen time and time again, doesn’t work
2. Henry is in central midfield where he can dominate the game, drift wide if he wants to and bang shots in, as we saw against Rochdale.
Like that.

I was toying with the idea of that exact lineup myself, and also wondered weather Henry, if used more centrally, might be better further forward at the tip of a diamond, such as:

Stevens
Long Moore Atkinson Ruffels
Gorrin
Kelly Brannagan
Henry
Agyei Taylor
But no doubt Robbo will go 433, and I reckon in that formation, an on form Henry has performed better when on the right of a front three, although his lack of pace has shown this season in that position, so maybe dropping into a midfield maestro role might help him maintain form?

Would love to see that diamond idea given a go though!

I fear a scrappy one goal defeat...whoever plays the lefft hand side role instead of obita has a mare... Sykes watches from the stand even though we only name 6subs...a sub has to go off injured...and of course, the Cuddy canine pitch invasion

I think that diamond could be very good when McGuane is back fit. He would add dynamism to the midfield and it allows him and Henry to play centrally. I’d like to see that too but KR doesn’t seem to vary from 4-1-2-3 or 4-2-3-1 very often.

For my first contribution to the forum I would go with the following:

Stevens
Long Moore Atkinson Ruffels
Gorrin
Kelly/Forde Brannagan
Henry Taylor Shodipo

Ideally I would start Henry alongside Brannagan but if Agyei and Shodipo both start it would leave us short of pace on the bench. Alternatively, start with Henry alongside Brannagan with Hall wide on the right for the same reason.

Rain has just started turning into sleety snow - I live about 2 miles from the ground as the crow flies........

snowing/ sleeting in OX3 currently .... presume its similar in OX4 ?

please Samual Barrott , dont call the game off

Really think its to the teams credit show they've managed to keep the run going despite the schedule disruption with cancelled fixtures. Would have halted the momentum of many weaker-minded sides

Yeah I agree, Mcguane instead of Kelly in a diamond, with Henry at the tip, what a midfield that would be, and with a front two of Agyei using his skill and strength, and Taylor poaching, we'd tear teams apart!

It's fine the sleet has stopped in Abingdon now just a slight drizzle. It's moving up north
