Transfer News Summer Transfer Preview

If we go up, realistically of this squad who would you feel comfortable having in the matchday 18
For me, Brannagan is the only one Id feel comfortable starting dependant on Murphy's form
Leigh, Moore, Harris, Goodrham and Dale the only ones Id feel comfortable playing minutes
Not Brown?

Can I be the first to float the name Kofi Balmer? Northern Ireland. Right back/centre back. Made a strange move from Larne to Palace two years ago. We were interested in him back then. On a free this summer. Been on loan to AFCW this season, who really rate him. Long throw, so if all else fails, he can just aim for Goodwin, unless he's injured, of course.

Was definitely on our radar 2/3 years ago, and spoken about a lot on this board back then. Has looked comfortable on the ball, and comfortable in a back 3 or 4. He can play at right back at a push, but I would hope that we'd be looking at a specialist right back instead for that position.

Not sure if Ryan Woods, would be on radar. Currently on loan at Exeter from Hull I think, getting rave reviews. Very good player at this level, always played well against us. Only negative I guess is that he’s 31 now

Karamoko Dembele would be a great loan signing regardless of which league we're in next season. 21 G/A's in 39 games for Blackpool.

I remember him bossing us for Shrews on Boxing Day in Appleton’s first season

Has anybody seen Alex Gilby of MK? He seems to be getting rave reviews this season.

IF we were promoted what about a cheeky attempt to get George Dobson from Charlton ( I think he maybe OOC)?

Dobson is absolute class at this level but he's agreed a deal to play in Hungary and could be playing Conference League football next year. Fair play and good luck to him for stepping outside his comfort zone

He’d be one on my list if we were to be promoted. Recruiting the best in class from L1 would be the way to go.
Dembele is a star at this level and I think a lot of his stats are almost in spite of Critchley. I'd be delighted if we got hold of him next year but not sure I see it happening, I think they'll have bigger plans for him and he does a lot of his best work in the 10 which we don't play with any more.

We wanted Ben Waine in January and got quite far down the road with it, I wouldn't be surprised to see us go back in for him but I suppose a lot will depend on what level both us and Plymouth are playing at.

Otherwise echo what most are saying. A new keeper, right back, central midfielder and striker are definitely needed as well as more options out wide. If we go up we'll need some serious quality coming in if we want to stay there but I'd far rather be in that position.

Goalkeeper is the most important signing, that has to be the priority.

A right back, because Long is not good enough for where we want to be.

Centre half is a must too.

An enforcer to sit in front of the defence.

A proper pacey right winger, and a striker.

We need a couple of those positions to be very robust nasty brutes, and please sign players that don’t have bad injury track records.

I imagine Ben Waine will be a serious possibility if Plymouth stay in the championship.

Centre Half a must?
Not sure I agree with that. Moore , Brown, Long have done very well and then there is Negru.

And Thorniley and Findlay too.

I suspect that Long will be seen as back up centre back/right back next season with a specialist right back brought in.

Expect a big bid for Max Dean at MK Don's if they're not promoted...

It's amazing how none of our players are good enough for a club with promotion aspirations, yet are possibly three games away from achieving promotion!

It's not that none of our players are good enough, it's that not enough of them are good enough.

For all that our injury problems were bad when Des came in - the spine of our team (Moore-Brown-Cam-Sparky) have remained generally healthy and have all started 40+ games (as has RR). Amongst the rest of the top six, only Peterborough can also say that they had five players start 40 or more games.

If one of those had gotten injured, I doubt we'd be in the playoffs because we haven't had the same strength in depth as some of our competitors. That is what we can hopefully improve this summer when some of our bloated contracts come off the books.

Exactly. We have such poor depth at the moment and are carrying too many players (albeit some good ones) that are too often injured.
