Away Match Day Thread 16/11/2021 FA Cup 1st R. Replay: Bristol Rovers v OUFC

Having had a night to think about this

Nobody was complaining when we were 2-0 down against Gillingham and scored 3 in ten minutes to win
We all forgot how horrendous we were for 80 minutes, being two goals up can be dangerous when the opposition get one back, I’ve seen it so many times before.
We were looking comfortable at 3-1 but this can happen
Let’s try and learn and move forward

Looking at the goal in the video clip, Long(?) should never have allowed their player to cut it back.
Agree - if Eastwood can’t get across and catch the deep cross from the right what Long has to do is be aware that Grant is behind him
and knock the ball behind for a Rover‘s corner. What Long can’t do is allow Grant to flick the ball back across goal.

The issue we had was that Seddon and Long were both being exposed repeatedly out wide with Rovers able to cross balls in for fun.
Karl went 4-2-3-1 with Henry and McGuane sitting and Forde, Bodin and Williams behind Taylor. We lacked solidity and strength
and could not deal with their intensity when they went for it. Bodin was out on his feet in particular. Henry lacks the aggression
to sit deep and break up play and screen the two CB’s. Robbo did not trust Hanson to do that role Evidently.

The key moment was Bodin’s miss to make it 1-4 in the second period of ET. Taylor cut the back back brilliantly
and Bodin blazed over from a great position. He had to make the keeper work at least.

We were looking a league above Rovers for long spells and much the technical superior ream with the ball but in transition
we looked very vulnerable. Without Brannagan or Kane who was subbed for Saturday in mind we lacked someone to
win the ball and keep it.

So we threw the game away in my view with poor defensive play and a lack of legs deep into ET.

Disappointing to see the brawl in Filton Avenue minutes after the final whistle as I ran back to the car despite a very heavy Police presence.
15-20 absolutely kicking the sh!t out of each other.

What makes you think there will be shedloads of quality players available in January? I am not so sure.
Yes; very strange. There seems to be a misconception by many on this forum that if we manage to make it through to January in a reasonable position in the league, everything will come good.
Suddenly a raft of quality players will become available, the money will be there to buy them, and they will want to move here.
Then of course we’ll go on that marvellous run of wins that we’ve been waiting for.
Robinson messed up the last transfer window (we all know the details: no reserve striker, left back, defensive midfielder etc etc) and it’s probably too late to make amends.
We are a good side but we won’t be promoted THIS year.
Yes, Scotchers; you can bookmark this.
And yes, I’d love to be wrong.

Sometimes you just have to accept the FA Cup gods spring up surprises like this and accept that we were beaten during an exciting end to end game.

Boring boring Oxford

I expect their were a fair few Ipswich fans who were loving that last night 😂

Dear boy you’re so convinced we will be promoted, believe it or not so would I, but not wearing rose tinted glasses I just can’t see that, if we did by some miracle we would be straight back down unless we have a complete overhaul now the playing staff apart from 3/4 players
But after tonight’s performance which various posters are saying it’s the team or it’s KR something will have to give…..ok treacle

‘Deary Boy’ & ‘treacle’- You’re a condescending pr1ck aren’t you, Baz?

What you’re saying is you’d rather us not go up for fear of coming back down - should the owners not plough in the multi-millions required to guarantee survival?

What is the point of competing (which is exactly what we are doing after 16 games and 6th in the league) if by your methodology, we are a broken flush that’s destined for relegation if we go up?

NB: no need to reply. I’m sure i’m not the only poster who’s sick of seeing your endless drivel on every thread of this forum.

Hard to empathize with the laughter at Ipswich fans after watching tonight’s cockwomblastic implosions
Do you really think that Ipswich fans saying they hope Oxford never win another game and are ‘decapitated’ after a 0-0 draw is the same as fans on here getting upset after we throw away a 3-1 lead with 10 mins to go against a team in the league below?!

Overreacting is one thing and yes is embarrassing, but so is the desperately trying to be too-cool-for-school, overly languid ‘Well we wouldn’t have won the thing anyway so… am I bothered?’ It smacks of a 14 year old wearing a fedora and sunglasses and pretending that they don’t care about anything.

After sleeping on that I’ve woken up this morning to a new dawn I wasn’t pissed off we lost because we will lose games I was pissed off how we lost and tbh I’m expecting a response on Saturday because some of these players need to show they’ve got the balls to stand up and be counted

sadly ( for Easty) it was a real clanger
Was it Eastie who dropped the clanger, or Longie who allowed their man to get onto the end of the cross, or whoever it was that tried to step in front of their player on the touchline to shield the ball only to be swept aside?

For me, clanger(s) of the night were the sequence of three woeful efforts from Bodin

Just seen their fourth goal for the first time. Definitely Long's error for me. Should just be turning it behind for a corner. He knows the man is there and has to be prepared for the keeper not dealing with it.

Condescending prick? How big of you. We would go straight back down with what we’ve got it’s football. we’re not good enough to compete in the championship with what we’ve got it would need a complete overhaul of our playing staff. If and it is an if, and yes it is possible that we make the play offs at the end of the season, what happens if we fail again? KR would have had 3 attempts how many more? Who would be held accountable for not achieving that? The players or the manager?
Finally that is very big of you calling me a prick So f**k off dear boy and kiss my a**e

You’re talking about us not getting promoted 6 (SIX!) months before we find out if it comes to pass.

Malc/Ste/ESB: can anything be done about this child? It begs the question whether or not his 23,000+ posts offer f**k all constructive to the forum. If he does, i’m yet to see it!

Yes I agree that we would likely come straight back down if we were promoted and we kept the exact same squad we had now.

However, if you're of this opinion then I would like to point you towards something called 'transfers'. I've been reading about them and it appears it's a thing that clubs do where they sign players they want in order to become more competitive, and sell or release players they don't think are right for them at that moment in time. I think (and someone who is ITK on these kind of things can correct me if I'm wrong), that if we did get promoted, we would probably try this transfer thingy out in order to get a better squad that would hopefully fare better at Championship level.

I could be wrong though and I apologise in advance if I have misunderstood this fundamental aspect of how football works.

Don’t be such a little boy, if you can’t handle the criticism or the questions about issues that are of a concern then maybe this isn’t for you.
What I have said is that we are not a club ready for promotion, do I want promotion? Of course I do but we’re not ready, however with the pending announcement of new owners with the wealth they have then yes anything is possible but it depends on whether they use their wealth not just for a new ground but towards the playing staff for us to be able to compete in the championship. But if we’re are promoted I will happy but not if nothing is done in a major overhaul of the playing staff. You may have rose tinted glasses and maybe one of these fans that see us lose 1 or 2 nil and say we were brilliant and didn’t deserve to lose when in fact we lost and fans cant understand why. Say as it is you seem quite comfortable gobbing off on here towards me which is your right but be honest.
We have a good side but just for L1 who last night let themselves down and we’re a disgrace and performances like that will not get you promoted.
As for the child comment you’ve gone running to malc/ste/ESB now who’s the child or maybe grass is more appropriate.

Gobbing off > calls out a poster who consistently posts in a moronic manner.

Nobody is wearing rose tinted glasses but some of us can see the wood from the trees. Some can see what the club are trying to sustainably build for our clubs future. Throwing millions at the playing squad if we get promoted? Not for me, thanks. Imagine if we did and STILL got relegated - you’d be the first on here having a pop at all and sundrie connected with the club.

We’re never going to agree so probably best it’s left there and we agree to disagree. I think you’re a clown and you think i’m a treacle 🤣.

Fact of the matter is, despite all of the bile that comes from you, our club is in a good position and 1 defeat in he Cup isn’t going to change that.
