We need to strengthen in defence, it doesn’t take a doctor spot to work that one out.

Yes it’s nice to have flair players, that are attack minded, that end of the pitch isn’t the problem. We need to lock the back door, and stop conceding stupid goals, and if your keeping clean sheets, then you aren’t losing games.

I like Whyte but is he really the step up in class that KR has been alluding to ? Browne I get, he’s more of a match winner and genuine Championship quality but I thought we were targeting a different market that buys us a different level of player to those that have - to put it bluntly - failed us in the past few seasons. I’m hoping we get better than Whyte if I’m honest.

Don’t think I’ve particularly moaned about our recruitment to be honest, just pointed out that there are quality players out there being snapped up, that we are supposed to be competing with in the market. Yes Ipswich and Sheff Wed have large budgets, and I appreciate that, but we should be on par with Pompey and Barnsley etc. they have both signed solid players.

Let’s wait and see who we have going to Derby County at the beginning of the season, then we can say if it’s been a success or failure.

If we don’t bring in 2-3 defenders it will be the latter.

Whyte was frustrating last year, his overall play, assists was great but he couldn't hit a barn door with a machine gun at times. Don't think we would get better unless we spent big mind. Would rather us buy better across the back four and defensive midfield.

Really ? I don’t believe that last bit at all. Tell me, what did Matt Elliott do on his debut in the first 20 minutes that had you saying he will go right to the top ? Win a few headers ? Lundstram another, I can’t recall his debut for us but his style of play isn’t one that would immediately have you purring. Magilton ? Possibly as he had a very silky first touch and was a clearly intelligent footballer.

For me, Jamie Brooke’s was one who I immediately thought looked on a different level, sadly it wasn’t to be though. Beauchamp was another, after a few games though, but again he never made the step up. Could never have envisaged Robbie Mustoe having the top flight career he did and I guess it shows you that one good or bad game in front of a watching scout can be a players make or break and why no one should really blame a young player like McNally for wanting to seize the opportunity if it arises.

I have to disagree with the Lundstram comment here.

I can't remember his debut as such but I know within his first few games I was convinced he was destined for the prem - I remember after Milwall away a few people in our group discussing whether he'd play for England or not.

Brookes had bags of talent but we've not had a player in the last 20 years with the ability to dictate a game that Lunny had(s).

Wouldnt be surprised if one of the two going to Spain is Browne. If the other is Scarlett that is a huge statement - 2 of Baldock, Scarlett and Taylor up top is very good at this level

I'd be delighted if Gavin Whyte was back here, especially on a permanent deal. I always feel positive when he is in the team or on the pitch, as he that little bit of quality and a threat in the opposition half that you need to win games....ok maybe he didn't show it as regularly as we would have liked(!) last season but he is a quality player and if he managed to settle in well then he certainly would be an asset.

What I do know is we’re hoping, probably expecting 2 possibly 3 to be done for next Saturdays friendly. But I didn’t think they were done deals just yet!
