I think the cov game usefully cleared a few things up for me. The difference in class was vast and we have much work to do on all fronts.

In a recruitment sense, we need a strong window both now and in the summer. We need to be quicker, more physical and more technical. If anyone is bidding 2 million for any of our players, then we should take it and invest wisely.

Other than maybe Brannagan, do we have any £2million players? Possibly Negru? I think beyond those two you're probably only looking at Moore and Goodhram who *may* be worth around the £1million mark.

Surely he's experienced life down south and wants to stay.

My massive sympathy is for Des. Leaves - what I imagine to be - a comfortable lifestyle in India, back to the cold and rain in the UK to take over a club he loves and is plunged into a nightmare of injuries (not his fault), an intense game schedule, no support team and none yet arrived, losing our highly rated loaned keeper and possibly a lack of new faces through the door. Genuinely gutted for him. #PrayforDes

I agree, but on the other hand, with so many players out/leaving, it does give him a bit more leeway to build his own squad, assuming he can get the players he wants in this window.

On the goalkeeping front, Nick Harris said after the Coventry game that this position is not the most urgent to fill as Eastwood is still capable at this level. He made some good saves on Saturday but I think Beadle would have saved a couple of the shots which went in. Certainly the one towards the end where Eastwood came running out and left most of his goal exposed. A better keeper on loan till the end of the season would be ideal, unless there's someone available on a permanent. At least any loan deals now will be to the end of the season, barring injury.

I prefer your optimism to my pessimism. I worry for Des a bit. From the outside at least he deserves more support than he is getting. Admittedly I dont know what is happening within the club though so basing that on instinct rather than any evidence.

Looking at other results from the FA Cup involving third tier v top level second tier teams and it makes for grim reading. We thought Peterborough were impressive and they were bowled over 0-3 by Leeds as well. Of our promotion challengers left in the Cup, only Bolton held Luton to a draw. Barnsley, Portsmouth and Derby were already out.

It maybe stresses the difference between L1 and the Championship even more. We were thumped by a mid-ranking Bristol City side in the League Cup and taken to town by Coventry in the FA Cup. You can find reasons to explain away aspects of both defeats but ultimately it comes down to them having much better players than us.

Plenty needed to take us to the next step and I never thought that would be ready in the summer and winter windows. There's still plenty of amendments needed to the squad for us to get to that next level.
