He did more short pass outs from the back then go long and when he did go long it was because he dithered in the ball inviting the pool forwards to come to him and then he had to hurry and go long. No organisation at the back the ball is rolled out to a full back and they closed us down very quickly. We are just not good enough to go long quickly and catch out the opponents, so we go short and spend so much time passing between the defence and Stevens.
This is interesting. There are plenty who say that we should play our own game and leave it to the opposition to worry about us.
It is almost too tempting to respond with "except OUFC" so I won't.I don’t think many modern football teams do that, why bother scouting the opposition if you are not going to use that information.
Football is a duller game for it but it’s becoming more like a physical chess match where you do anything to gain an advantage.
One thing that cannot be argued in my opinion is that tactics are not Robbos strong point. I can count on one hand the number of times hes made a tactical switch that has made a big difference.Reading their managers assessment of how they watch other teams and stop them playing should ring alarm bells for KR
Blackpool produced a carbon copy performance of what they did here in the league.
Pressed us and scored two first half goals and job done.
How did we not learn and then set up to combat this? Did our players not watch a re run of that game?
Yes Blackpool are a superior team but perhaps we should have played a different formation with Gorrin the side and leave Agyei as the striker with pace for the ball over the top as we soak up pressure and hit them on the break, more like an away game.
Maybe not what the fans want but could be a different outcome
At times yes, and as I said there were also countless times they put no pressure on at all and we STILL played it long.Under no pressure at the back? They had 3 players high pressing every time Jack had the ball. He rarely had the option of doing other than kick it long. We didn't throw our game out of the window, they stopped us opening the window.
The complete game is now on the OWSDoes anyone have a link to the second minute penalty shout? It's not on the iFollow highlights and i don't have Sky. ta
See what you are saying but didn’t we learn anything about the first Blackpool gameI've seen a lot of comments on here about how we don't change our game plan according to the opposition. I can't believe that is actually true, if you're trying to suggest we don't take account of the strengths and weaknesses of the other team then you're nuts, just because our formation and game plan doesn't drastically change every game we will be mindful of what the opposition like to do.
Also If Blackpool base their entire philosophy on what the other team is likely to do then I'd take us every time, i want my team to have their own identity and win/lose games by trying to entertain rather than spoiling tactics. May as well get Ian Atkins back if that's what people want?

So what do we actually do to change things then? We've been caught out time and time again because we have one way of playing, and when that works we look brilliant and when it doesn't we look completely hopeless. If we didn't change or line-up or formation for Blackpool then can you tell me what Karl and the staff did change to combat the threat they posed?I've seen a lot of comments on here about how we don't change our game plan according to the opposition. I can't believe that is actually true, if you're trying to suggest we don't take account of the strengths and weaknesses of the other team then you're nuts, just because our formation and game plan doesn't drastically change every game we will be mindful of what the opposition like to do.
