I think other nations will look at that and think we looked decent and would be a little concerned to face us. Bossed possession against an experienced and street-wise Croatia, looked tactically astute, made the correct decisions at pressure moments and we have so many potential match-winners who can produce one-off moments that Sancho (who’d get into most teams in the tournament) couldn’t even get on the bench.

Clearly we have a lot of weaknesses. Better teams would expose Mings, or Trippier at LB, or Pickford being erratic. But having multiple players who can hurt opposition in an instant is a real blessing at a tournament.

Tbh we were pretty negative bay points during the game. If we played like we did in the first 15 mins for the 90 we would have had them by the short and Curley by half time, but I understand bin this heat that was going to be impossible. A win is a win but Southgate should look at the game in detail tomorrow and see where we should have done better.

There's no point pretending something's brilliant when it isn't. Got the job done today against an ok Croatia side but they're nothing special. Very negative set up and struggled to create anything. Trippier at left back is unnecessarily cautious and hampers us going forward, there were a couple of times when he had a chance to overlap that Shaw or Chilwell would have taken but he didn't want to go on his left. Leaving Sancho out the squad completely is baffling, we we really more likely to need Coady AND White than some extra creativity from Sancho?

But if he wasn’t showing it today because he had no service then Southgate needs to change it and start Calvert-Lewin and if needs be then bring Kane in later, there’s no room for sentiment, Southgate should have taken him off instead of Foden and replaced with either Rashford or Calvert-Lewin

Isn’t Kane a bit like Matt Taylor? He’ll take chances but if they don’t come his way can be pretty invisible.

He had no service; partly due to Trippier being unable to attack, and Kyle Walker giving the ball away at least 10 times when trying to go forward. We need to make changes.

So I would expect him to start the group games at least (if fit of course) based on his record under Southgate alone. He has a game in his legs now as well.
