Just seen the Thorniley rumours on Twitter. Quite amused really. Literally nobody benefits from this - least of all Thorniley, who I doubt is going to walk in to playing every week in another Championship / top League One side. You'd imagine he'd be pretty annoyed at having his season, and wider career, sacrificed in a futile negotiation ploy by his parent club. I suggested they might do this on here, partly as a joke, when the CB rumours started to circle again a couple of weeks ago. Pretty surprising they're actually following through with it.
It's frustrating for us, as now we need to find another CB, but hardly the end of the world. I'm looking forward to seeing more of McNally - I think he's really got something about him. I also think it's no coincidence that our one (IIRC) goal from a corner this season came from McNally. With him, Moore and Long as targets in the box, suddenly we look a lot more dangerous than when one of our targets is the diminutive Blackpool man. I don't think we have a 'big' enough team elsewhere this season to be afforded the luxury of also having one small CB. (This, as others have pointed out, was made painfully clear on Saturday.)
Don't want to rewrite history though - I think Thorniley is very good and it would be a shame to see him go. He's just not irreplaceable, and it's possible that the right replacement helps us pick up a few more points than we would have done with JT.
