Away Match Day Thread 01/03/22 L1: Portsmouth v OUFC

Well it’s never boring, we are like an experiment to see if you can get promoted despite conceding loads of goals. Been a hard spell of games though and we just ran out of legs a bit tonight.

Big game against Burton now, you can lose games in the play off chase but you need to bounce back, decent chance to do that this Saturday.

I'm a Robinson fan but it is his fault. The defence has been really neglected this season unfortunately. There is no point me going on about the lack of player depth defensively this season because it's been done to death but I just hope Robinson learns for next season whichever league we play in. There is something very Kevin Keegan about the way we are playing now. It's exciting, I will give it that.

Agree, unfortunately.

🎶We're Oxford United! More wingers than sense!🎵

thought the back three actually done pretty well , can't lose the ball in midfield in the positions we did and not expect to get punished although unlucky that the finishes were clinical .
Herbie Kane at fault for two of the goals while all three could have been defended ' as a team ' better.

What a whopper of a birthday. Work all day, can't see anyone as still recovering from Covid, chicken for dinner didn't defrost so rubbish dinner, no messages from any of my mates, just family, and now an OUFC loss and our rivals all win. Bloody hate birthdays.

One of those nights, unfortunately. Strange refereeing performance, but other than the no pen call on Taylor didn't actually affect the result. Win the next 2 and it won't matter too much, still in our hands. Night all.
Happy Birthday Jolteon. You should have gone to KFC with Kip if you wanted chicken!

We really missed Sykes tonight

Holland is a talented and skillful player, however he just doesn't do it on a wet night, and doesn't battle when battling is needed, yet twice KR has started him on wet nights when getting stuck in is needed

Kane is going through a drop in form

Defensively- including in the midfield- its far too kamikaze

a 'mad' 3 minutes towards the end of the first half cost us tonight

9k on Saturday will be a bit of ask after tonights result

we go again, at home, in 4 days times

Portsmouth had four or five attacks and scored three goals - every mistake is being punished it seems but too often we are slow to get blocks in
or close opponents down and it’s criminal defending really.

We started well but Portsmouth got a bit too physical as the first half wore on and we stopped passing.

Thought Taylor was shocking as was Seddon and Kane’s mistakes in the middle of the park were pivotal.

It’s so frustrating that we can’t seem to defend properly given coaches Mousinho and Short have made a living out of being defenders.

A word on the referee - he was abject.

It is higher up. Not much chance for the back 3 tonight.

Yep agree, if anyone is to blame for the defeat it is Kane and Stevens. But can't really blame Kane when he is playing out of position, that all comes down to Karl not replacing Gorrin in January. Stevens on the other hand is getting beat far too easy from long range and I can't help think the second and third goals other keepers would of tipped away.

Still on to Burton where 3 points is a must.

Don't think Seddon would have got away with those mistakes so easily that Kane done .
Very poor and neither desperate last ditch defending just poor midfield play
