Cheers for that. Looks like he indeed came off the bench in May. Wonder how many minutes he played since January - might have a proper look later. Just cos I’m nosy.

As an aside, I see that Alan Pardew was the CSKA manager last season, with former U’s man Alex Dyer as his assistant.

They both have left since then. Alex Dyer was getting racist abuse

Forde is naturally a wide player and was the first choice right winger for Rotherham when they got promoted from L1 a few seasons back, so I think he’s possibly being a little overlooked. Especially if there is a new right back potentially coming in.
A right back on the wing? Now I've heard everything

If we sign Stockton then you can sod the positive bus..

All aboard!

HMS Duncan, my wife knows her ex captain before she retired.

It’s great to get Murphy over the line to join Findlay, McGinty, Wildschut and the others who have returned or signed new deals.

However, I do think it’s still premature to be getting giddy at the business we have done and should refrain from considering ourselves genuine promotion contenders until the following has taken place;

1) two new full backs who are signed with a view to starting in our best Xl
2) A genuine holding midfielder who can be disciplined in the position (think Camara at Plymouth who bossed both games against us). It remains to be seen whether that is McGuane but I’d argue there has been nothing to suggest that is really his game, so far.
3) competition for Taylor and Baldock is signed. An alternative to the ‘fox in the box’ and someone with a bit of presence who will impose themselves on the opposition.

So far, the recruitment has been solid and you can’t argue with the additions - if they stay fit they’ll become assets for the football club. But, I would reserve judgment on the window until it closes. Robinson hasn’t yet addressed the balance of the squad and until that happens, I can’t help but think we’ll fall short of promotion, again. Here’s hoping he’s learnt the lessons of the last 2/3 seasons.
Spot on, great post.

In my opinion both Henry and Bodin lack the pace to be effective in our system out wide, and look much better centrally. Therefore we have two first choice wingers and a youngster available. I’d much rather see Jones and another right/versatile winger sign than a left back, when we have two players who can comfortably play there.
I don't disagree with you at all, in an ideal world both Henry and Bodin don't have to play out wide all season and stick to CM and CAM. But I think with the wing position they have enough quality to do a job there for us (if required) and we still have two starting quality in wingers in Browne and Murphy - whereas with the fullback positions I don't personally think Seddon, Brown or Forde (incidentally also capable on the wing) are quite up to the standard of the rest of the starting 11 and Long has injury concerns so I'd rather we put our biggest efforts into those positions first where 1st team starting players are required, and I'd also consider another striker and defensive midfielder as more important, even if it means we have to wait a few weeks to get in a Wildschut replacement.

Of course we've been putting in the work to sign Rak-Sakyi already anyways, so hopefully that comes to fruition and we don't have to worry about the wing position either way. Goodrham I am a huge fan of too, and with the 5 subs being introduced I hope we get to see him in league games this year too.

You'r right. We can make do for now, and have players that can do good job in other positions - except in the FB area. Hopefully we will get away with this for a few more weeks.

We have until 1 September (36 days) to bring players in (unless they're free agents).

Make do? Look where that has got us in the past though.

First time he’s had a hamstring injury, so I don’t think that’s fair. It happens. You can’t account for the unforeseen.
No it's not. He was out for 5/6 weeks in 20/21 with a hamstring injury whilst playing for Maccabi Haifa. Not a serious one but maybe the start of a weakness there.

In fairness I don't think there is anything 'make do' about the players we have brought in so far so I'm not expecting any different from the rest of our window. As someone else put particularly well, there's been a clear shift in the credentials we are targeting in our signings so whilst it might be a bit late, we can broadly assume anybody coming in now is an improvement on what we already have and we're not looking to 'get away' with anything this year.

Interesting, didn't Robbo in his radio interview after the game say it hadn't happened before? Maybe I got that wrong.

Think it’s been a bit fiddly due to the terms. Sounds like there is a pay-as-you-play element to it on one end to protect the club in case he breaks down, but also something that says if he makes X appearances then we get to trigger an extension, so that he can’t just walk away in 12 months if he gets fit and shows good form. But if we trigger said extension then the pay-as-you-play element disappears moving forward as the player will have been deemed to have proven his reliability etc. Just lots of little creases to iron out so both sides are happy.
That's exactly the right sort of contract, low risk to the club but benefits the player if he performs and can stay fit/injury-free
