I think bate would be a great signing to rotate our midfield, remember how wonderful mcguane was when he had genuine competition earlier in the year. Made McEachrean not get a look in and became one of the first players on the team sheet and since then hasn’t reached the same heights, and I think Bate would reset that meaning not only do we get a very good technical midfielder who’ll only get better, but a reinvigorated Mcguane, and should MM leave in the summer/next summer, we have a ready made replacement

Postitive thinking indeed.

Stan Mills was available and in the squad for all 25 League games of his loan spell. He started 14 of them and came off the bench in another 7 (unused sub 4 times).

21 games to go. That equates to Burey being permanently available, starting 12 and appearing off the bench in 6.

For what it's worth, I'll be pleasantly suprised if we get anything close to that from him (let alone the 7 goals/assists that this also equates to).

Feel free to bookmark.
According to Whoscored, which is normally quite accurate:
Mills has 1 goal and 4 assists from 26 games with a shot per game of 1.2. In League 1
Burey had at Hartlepool 5 goals and 1 assist from 22 games with a spg of 3. League 2 and conference.

So I would say he is capable but at Millwall in the championship he was much less potent.

perhaps in the right team he could do well. On You Tube he has full backs on toast but can / does he do that consistently?

I don't think ,Leeds would loan us another player, after Perkins. If from what I've read from some sources..
What has been said?
It seems that Manning, Des and Short didn't see how Perkins could benefit us, so what was the club supposed to have done wrong?

Those claiming that it doesn't matter what has gone before with Smith should consider the following.

It's clear that either a majority, or a very large minority, wouldn't want him. This club is divided enough as it is, so do we want to proactively introduce another element that would cause further division when we don't need to?

That's not being "delicate" (which in itself is another divisive comment) but recognising that some players and clubs are not a good fit. OUFC and Sam Smith is one of them. There are other strikers out there, and we do not need to subject ourself to the inevitable fallout that would come from signing him. I hope we still have the no dick heads policy.

Smith apologised for misreading the Beauchamp situation, I heard it and it sounded a genuine enough apology. He's not the first 21 year old footballer to display a bit of untimely stupidity. In his defence, scoring a goal against a club where you didn't show up and in front of fans booing your every touch there must have been an immense adrenalin rush to score in front of them and enjoy the celebration.

I think part of the reason he's been booed is because he's a bloody good player and rightly perceived by us as a genuine threat. What's that, 3 or 4 goals against us ? Well taken goals too. He's one of the only forwards I've seen bully Moore - not so much the recent game but he had him on toast in that game at ours for Cambridge. That was the best individual performance, I've seen, from an opposition striker at The Kassam probably since Aaron McClean gave that masterclass for Grays about 15 years previously !!!!

I think Des is maybe a bit too PC to sign him and risk upsetting the apple cart so it's very likely a non-starter anyway.

With the Bate discussion, I don’t think he’d be someone on our radar, or someone that fits what we are after.

However it may be someone that pops up and we think “He’s an upgrade on other 6/8 options” so we may look to add him in, as someone we wasn’t really planning too, an added bonus type think. Defo an upgrade on Smyth, and would help take the load off of CB and MM.

We do need a physical body in there though

Moxon
Dom Ball
Nohan Kenneh

Would be a few names to look at, probably in that order for me

Edit - Seen Kenneh is on loan, I thought they managed to poach him, Ossama Ashley from Salford could be a look for one to develop
Wiredu from Fleetwood is another one Conteh from Grimsby as well.. i think thats how you spell it

To be honest if he turned up with a quick apology for misreading the Beauchamp situation and bagged a goal or two we'd all be happy.

Chris Maguire personalities are horrible when they're against you but you wouldn't say no.

You are if you’re offended by Sam Smith cupping his ears and giving out a bit of stick to you as an opposition fan.
There’s giving out a bit of stick then there’s what Smith’s done. His antics at the Joey game were unforgivable for me, especially considering he was a former player.

There’s giving it back and there’s going too far, which is why I wouldn’t mind a player like Ronan Curtis but would detest Nathan Thompson playing for us.

He skips between two defenders in the last bit of action of the clip they posted on Twitter yesterday. Looks like he enjoys trying to beat his defender, and even if that's not always successful it puts defending teams on the back foot and makes them surrender territory and give up space in the midfield. Should hopefully make us more potent attacking threat, even if it's not directly through him - we need Cam [picking it up int he final third rather than on half way. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does, and what his attributes bring to our whole game.

I suppose they might look at it and think ..... 'they've got a striker (Harris) who hasn't scored for 4 months, another who comes on (O'Donkor) who hasn't scored for 8 months, surely our man Perkins is worth a bit more game time' ... it would appear a valid enough argument. Either that or he's absolute tripe in training.

Was about to make this point... if Sam Smith behaved how he does for us we'd love him. Chris Maguire is the perfect example. Everyone else hated him, we loved him.

A players personality very quickly stops mattering when they do well, or get you promotion.

Agree, looked just the sort of player we needed.

However old Salmon Pants saw his name mentioned on these boards and thought that was a good enough recommendation to sign him. Spent most of the season in the treatment room.

C’est la vie.
Spent most of the season before in the treatment room at Ipswich too.

That was on of the specific things I liked about Edwards before his injury, wasn't scared to run at people and take a few on.

Charlton signed Connor Coventry on a permie. A good, physical midfielder with a good passing range.

Would have been decent for us but sure we have plenty of irons in the fire.
