Can you provide a link to where Goodwin's length of contract has been confirmed and disclosed because I can't see anywhere including on the club website where it just says long-term. Hopefully you are not disclosing information you shouldn't. Be even worse if you are guessing.
I thought that it had been widely reported?
That could be wrong but seems to make sense

It doesn’t need to be that scientific. It’s a squad game where from game to game it may suit us to have one type of player, or another, or both. But you need the options to have any choice and for years we haven’t had that while other teams have sailed past us in to the championship for doing a proper job of that.

What’s the down side of someone pushing Harris for his position particularly when they offer a totally different skill set? We’ve still got so much growth ahead as a club and fan base. Some people are still far too invested in the players’ feelings or their achievements for us in ancient history to actually work out what’s good for the club and going to get us where we need to go. We need to be made of stronger stuff than that and face up to reality. Clubs will continue to breeze past us to the championship until we snap out of that this kind of mentality. Competition for places has absolutely no down side unless the players you bring in have a victim mindset and/or a manager that can’t manage the personalities on his hands.
I'm not saying that Harris shouldn't be pushed nor that Goodwin has a right to start . Just as you wanted Ladopo in that could reduce Goodwin to being third choice and at £400,000 we aren't doing that . One of the biggest fees we have spent .

But there doesn’t need to be a first, second or third choice. I don’t believe for a moment that Des sits down with a player and says “I want you to come and be my third choice”. There should just be 3+ strikers that offer different things and allow Des the opportunity to play different combinations and rotate. The blend across them is important and Goodwin and Harris is a good start but perhaps lacking in real nouse and knowhow and still no definitive goal scoring record which might be next on our shopping list, who knows, but it’s the standout thing missing from that department that we need. The only position where I think the rules are different is goalkeeper but everywhere else, you want a full compliment of players that give you options across the season, there’s no need to have a regimented pecking order, that’s how you upset people. People should be competing for places and getting in the team on merit and for what damage they can do the next opponent. Form, suspensions and injuries are all inevitable and will force our hand as well.

Appleton is a funny one. Never actually achieved anything outside of managing Oxford, which is very odd considering how well it went for him.

I loved Appleton here and would have had him back but the more I think of it the more I think his success was as much down to Ashton. We were a really slick operation then and I doubt we outperformed our budget by much, indeed we needed a win on the last day of the season to avoid the playoffs.

  • Any team in Div one would be in dreamland with May and Ladapo leading the attack. Four shots on target was all the whole team managed V Burton

Appleton now under real pressure reading btl on X feed for match thread-every response negative

I know that it's mostly in fun, poking fun at him, but I do think that we should feel for Kip.

He's set out his stall as THE most pessimistic fan of Oxford United, more like a glass 90% empty sort of person. So he really doesn't get to experience the depths of despair the rest of us go through when we lose--he knew we'd lose all along.

But, like all of us, he secretly would love to actually support, positively, the team. Because he knows that any fan who actively supports a team and is optimistic about their chances each and every game, each and every season, is doomed to disappointment. So what better than to choose a different team each season to be over optimistic about, just to experience the lows of that optimism being for naught? This year it's Charlton. Good for you, Kip

You’ve got to feel sorry for the club that Kip is convinced will storm the league each season.

They haven’t got a chance, doomed to failure. It’s worse than the Kassam stadium’s gypsy curse.

Each season with trepidation away fans come onto Yellows Forum to see who Kip is tipping for promotion.

Poor, poor Charlton, not only do always beat them at the Valley with a last minute winner, then Kip goes and sticks the knife in.
