Home Match Day Thread 5/10/2021 PJT: OUFC v Stevenage

Cam put in a good shift tonight but even he was wayward at times. He will be frustrated with that.
Dan Agyei is a big lad but he doesn’t impose himself on defenders, doesn’t win headers and when the ball is played up to him, he struggles to win it and hold it up for others to lay off to.
Joel Cooper seemed to be lost out there at times tonight.
There is a decent footballer in there but for me he just makes too many positional mistakes to see him force his way into the team. Defensively, we lacked calm at two critical times and it cost us. Looked like a lack of organisation for both goals so that is something to work on.
Not a shambles of a performance by any means, there was a lot to admire from us in fleeting moments. But we must improve.
Sorry but that was a shambles that was a very poor 2nd rate performance against a side that wanted to win and that wasn’t us.

its almost as if he thinks hes done the job at 1 goal then switches off.Other strikers seem to have more desire to get more goals once theyve scored.
We’re screwed if we lose Matty either for suspension or god covid injury

Cooper hasnt got the pace against modern full; backs, just like Hall. they both cant get up and down the pitch although they both have skill.

Buzzing for the game v Spurs U-21’s in a few weeks. Can’t believe the board are letting us watch it for free.
The only ones that will be there will be the embarrassing singers we had tonight and okay our U21’s

Sadly this has been know for some time and it doesn't seem to have got through to Robinson.
Yeah because Joel Cooper and Agyei have played soooooo much football this season, haven’t they? 😅 Whyte and Taylor must be wondering where they’re going wrong..

I don’t think Cooper had done any favours for himself tonight and tbh don’t think Agyei has either.

I actually think that’s a lack of confidence, he’s concerned with not f*****g up and he switches off once he’s done enough

Mrs Lounger and I took up the offer of a "free" ticket for this evening. After that abysmal performance we won't be bothering with the next game in this competition not even if the club pay us to attend. No fan deserves that kind of nonsense.
That 11 OUFC players went out on the pitch and turned in that display of how not to play as a team with opportunities for fringe players to shine and still look second rate is a mystery.
If there was a formation of choice for this game it obviously had not been communicated to the players unless, 3 - 1 - 6 is a formation?

Agyei was not good tonight but imo more of the stick should be aimed at the likes of Cooper, Williams and Forde and to a lesser extent, Seddon, we had no creativity down either side of the pitch, players running down dead ends and the quality from any eventual crosses were generally pretty poor and got worse as the game went on.

On a bright note, Cam did some nice things and Ben Davies came on and looked to get into the swing of things with no issues.

Look it’s only the Pizza Cup but what a diabiolical second half. Missed Gorrin most, no strength in the middle of the pitch.

Some have played their way out of the club on that showing. Young Davis completely out of his depth. Didn’t like the team attitude tonight, complacent and unprofessional.

Freed up additional training and rest time for the matches that really matter I guess so not all bad.

Apart from the goal, I can think of a fair few good crosses in the 1st half (Thorniley hit the crossbar and Agyei when he could have easily scuffed the ball in he was that close). I agree it wasn't very good in the 2nd half.
Only watched the 2nd half. [emoji846]

A tad harsh since this competition is essentially built for the development of young players (note inclusion of top youth academies).

Did you pick up your job on the first day like you’d done it all your life? He’s a kid with ability and he’s here to learn. Let’s give the boy a chance! Slam the performance by all means but I see no reason he should get singled out.

Some right 'characters' (weirdos) in the East Stand tonight
Yes there were every bloody miss kick by Stevenage “ your f*****g s**t “ and to the 20 or so Stevenage fans that turned up on a cold Tuesday night in a P**s pot trophy game getting sung at “ your support is f*****g s**t “ totally embarrassment.

It's probably a sign of how little I care about this competition that I came on here to see if there was any injury news, or interesting new threads - and it turns out that we had a game tonight! Oops.

Honestly couldn't care less that we lost in this competition (although I understand from the match report that we're actually not mathematically eliminated yet).....

......but it is a bit disappointing that we lost to a 'bottom third of League Two' Stevenage side, despite playing what you'd probably categorize as a 1.5 team. Certainly feels as if it wasted a bunch of energy/minutes from Cam, Henry, Sykes and the whole back four.

Good for Cooper & Agyei to get 90 minutes though.....if only because it showed that neither of them are miracle workers that should be starting in the league every week.
Cooper was subbed
