Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

Can maybe see us going in for Boyle from Cheltenham again before the end of the window, long been known that Robbo has chased his signature before and that’s one I could see us trying to do.

Winnall has a far better goalscoring record over his career. Last season Winnall has I believe the best goalscoring record per minute at Oxford.
Whatever Agyei's talents, goalscoring isn't one for a striker.
The problem is Winnall, I'm guessing, also had the best injury record per minute too (held jointly with Hanson).

Agyei has never been given a proper run of games, nor has the system ever been set up to accommodate his pace or style.

He probably should be loaned or sold to advance his career - a career which has not been stifled by his own lack of ability but because of the total failure of management or recognition of his ability.

The fact that we pick Winnall over Agyei is a disgrace - they have similar goalscoring stats but Dan (a developing striker when he joined us) is forced to play unnaturally whereas Winnall is playing in a system suited to his style and he has still offered almost nothing over his 30-odd appearances.

Hopefully they both leave the club soon, not least because Dan deserves a proper chance and Winnall isn't up to League 1 football.
I agree about Agyei not getting a run of games but I think the bit in bold is conjecture.

This is the same management that saw Baptiste off to the Premier League, brought Dickie and Atkinson through and off to the Championship, brought Stevens through etc etc. We all know Robbo's faults but I think he's shown he can develop a player.

Agyei was never going to start ahead of Taylor so he has a responsibility to himself to give the management every reason to pick him when there's an opportunity to, and if that's the first sub off the bench then so be it. I'm sure there are a few reasons why it just hasn't clicked for him here, and some of them may lay with management, but to suggest it's completely on management seems off, unless you're privy to all goings on behind the scenes.

The majority view is that Agyei should be loaned out and you can pick your own preference as to why that should be.

However, the fact that he is still here would suggest that either no one wants to take him or that he and/or the management team still think he can play a role with us.

Also, Agyei claps really weirdly when the team are walking off.

They should be drilling the players on better applauding of the fans during training.

Positively Gove-like. Not good enough.

horrible horrible clip

The question I posed at the start of the season - has Agyei improved from the player we signed in 2019?

My answer is no. He’s still raw, powerful and pacy but frustrating, uninvolved and passive. If he’s not improved in that time, that tells me he may not have it in him to do so. Sam Long has come on leaps and bounds since then, Baptiste has moved to the PL after a great first had of the season in 2019, Taylor has hit 50 goals. Agyei is in the same spot as he was on the day he signed.

Exactly the points i've been making, he started away at Pompey played well then was out of the team thereafter so performance on the pitch in this instance made no difference. brief cameo appearances expected to do what others haven't in most minutes before when weirdly the service also dries up is an odd way to judge a player.

it reached a point where it came across as he had to score 3 just to get on the bench next game.

I don't know why you think there has been poor management of Agyei. That was a view a while back but he's had quite a lot of chances in different positions and although he seemed to be improving at the end of last season he appears to have regressed this year. Also management will see him in training and will know a lot more about him than you do. I really want him to do well but he's so frustrating and often just looks lost. @RyanioBirdio has alluded to ITK stuff which may well be true, but he has to look more capable when he gets on the pitch. He can't expect a system to be set up to accommodate his style when Taylor is our #1 striker.
As I always say, I post what I post under my own name in a place where people from the club see it and know it’s me, and I’ve never once been asked to remove anything or had any “that’s not true, take that down” phone calls. So people can take from that what they will.

The relationship was ruined once and for all in August. The sooner he’s gone the better for everybody.

Peter Crouch's A Life in the Day in the Sunday Times magazine 2 weeks ago: "You're never as bad as people say you are. Or as good."

Oh, I'm not doubting you - I just have no idea myself.

Getting things back on topic....

Can we assume then, that any talk of done deals or players close to completing a move is now off the table, and we're back to window shopping? Or are there any stronger rumours of incomings? Obviously KRs interview at the weekend mentioned nothing...but Friday there was talk of two potentials....were both players asking too much money/needed to be "dragged onto the pitch" etc?

Intriguing.

Depending on your preference for the ITK's Cam may still be moving or not, Browne appears to be a not anymore thanks and we have a young defender who may be heading our way.

Left a floater in the pool?

That would finish it for me...
