Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

KR confirms 2 done and hopefully another 2 to come in possibly 3. So best case scenario is 5 in today.

Two deals completed last week, one more Friday and Karl had two meetings today. So it's looking positive that we'll see 5 new additions.

Maybe not that far off after all! Admittedly the one I was expecting Friday was Szmodics on loan so I'd guess that's the one that's still unclear.

3 of those players are not match fit.

Hylton offers nothing different than say Winnall when fit.

Smyth isn’t ready for this level yet, plus Browne is coming back from a serious injury with hardly any football this season.

We needed players to strengthen the squad NOW with back-up in certain areas. The only player that I’d take out of those that we need NOW is Roberts!

When we played Blackpool in the play-offs last season it was clear we lacked, physical and athletic players who could hit the ground running, and we haven’t addressed that. Add to that, I don’t feel we’ve added to our forward line either.

Don’t get me wrong, Browne & Hylton are good players, but I’d rather they were acquisitions where they’ve posted all season with each contributed to their respective clubs rather than their current offerings.
Hylton is a completely different beast to Winnall. In fact there are not many like him out there. Unique and what a player to bring in. If he was 29 everyone would be raving. Players don't just fall off a cliff when they turn 30.

Jamie Cureton was still banging them in at 37.

Trust me, this is an awesome signing.

Smyth won’t be a quick win but if he progresses the same way McNally has, what’s the problem? Hylton would’ve closed the gap between us and Blackpool. We needed a bully to bully the bullies. Browne is an X-factor player that’s difficult to turn down. Roberts (if true) is versatile and clearly has pedigree. I have my reservations but I can honestly see the logic in all of them and they’re smart deals.

I don’t think you’re alone in your opinion - many people are suggesting we need these grand changes to strengthen when reality is we don’t. We need to balance up and give competition for places and support the XI who have done really well up to now. When things are going well you don’t tear everything up - it’s just about fine tuning.

Maybe Szmodics is dependent on what happens with Sykes?

Funny, because I remember defending his signing the first time round on the basis that he was a young striker with something to prove - something I think we could do with now, rather than a player in a similar mould to what we've already got.

That being said - if we are to resign Hylton I will, at least for nostalgic reasons, be excited to see him play again and, of course, will hope he can recapture his player of the season form and help us on our charge towards the autos!
No place for nostalgia in football

Is Szmodics a striker though? Thought he played just behind the striker? Small chap if I remember rightly.

Would be a great signing but are we not overloaded with attack minded players in the midfield?

He is similar to Sykes, can play as a winger, a number 10 and in a 3 man midfield. Guess it depends on if Sykes leaves and the severity of this Henry injury.
