Not blaming Sykes, but I with many others were saying take him off at half tine so foresight not hindsight
The replace the walking red line is used quite often on here and very rarely comes to pass or not doing so rarely actually results in a red, but yesterday did feel different in that respect in terms of a sense of inevitability.
If i had been Robbo I would have replaced Sykes AND Stevens at halftime - head injury protocols and all that.

Mackem view.
First half, Oxford better team, Sunderland better players.
Second half, Sykes made it easier for us. Pretty much in control until Oxford came on really strong looking for equaliser, but that did tire them and leave them vulnerable at back.
My view, surprised KR did not sub Sykes, but he seemed distracted to say the least. Also defender let you down when we took free kick and scored. Look at it again. Ref not at fault in that particular instance.
Very tough game and delighted with win. Would not gave grumbled with a draw, but we are very resilient at the moment.
Ref not at fault? I bet you’d be on here saying the exact opposite if the situation was reversed.

Possibly. However, a lot of focus on the ref but Sykes and manager let you down, as did the defender who was not injured and just fannying around. He should have been up off his feet and defending against an unmarked McGeady.

They say refereeing decisions even out over the course of a season. If so we are due at least a dozen dodgy decisions go our way in the next 8 games. It surely can't be the referees clubbing together to make sure they collectively team against us because they don't like our managers mouth, but it is difficult to see any other explanation. Over the last 2 months.

Doncaster away Shodipo penalty as clear as you will ever see not given
Tranmere first goal clearly handball
Ipswich we had to suffer an 'unhelpful' referee all game having to smooth over the carnage from Drysdale headbutting an Ipswich player the game before
Charlton elbow just before half time not sent off, but was subbed by Charlton at half time because he should have been sent off and would have been in second half (KR note)
Northampton handball on the line penalty not given, even though the 4th official now admits he saw it but didn't say anything to the referee (if you believe KR's story)
Lincoln clear penalty not given, but thankfully evened up by an equally bad decision moments later. Does that make it OK that a ref is allowed to do this?
Sunderland

The biggest danger to the future of football is the standard of the officials. VAR has not helped, but that is because those officials who were deemed not good enough and needed electronic intervention to overcome their failings are in charge of it. And we can all see they still get it wrong even with TV replays so what chance do we have that they get decisions right on the pitch in real time. The difference is that the element of acceptable human error is taken away by VAR, getting a decision wrong with VAR can only be professional negligence. And it is difficult to understand how the FA can be 'happy' with Kettle turning out bad performance after bad performance. Surely they must realise he is toxic. It is very sad when all of the pre-match chat is about how the fans and media are expecting another terrible refereeing performance, and the post-match chat is a case of told you so, if anything it was even worse than predicted pre-match.

Definitely. And I wouldn’t blame you, but let’s not let understandable bias masquerade as impartial, forensic and balanced commentary.
I've expanded my reply. I would have been furious with Syked for getting sent off, and furious with defender for fannying around when he should have been up and defending.

Could probably add the keeper not getting sent off at MK for that foul on Agyei to that list, too.

I had no idea that Kettle was a qualified medical practitioner. Just one glance at a player on the ground and he's convinced that all is ok?

Firstly Brannigan is a midfield not defender secondly how does kettle know he’s not injured thirdly kettle is a c**t that shouldn’t be allowed to ref any games again oh and also how does your manager know what happened in the tunnel if he was in the toilet bit coincidental 🤔

OK. Didn't know it was a midfielder. They all look the same to me. Sick if repeating myself but watch it again. Clearly not a head injury. He was on his knees complaining, didn't get his own way and went down clutching his leg, like the knacker many players are. Doesn't matter if he's injured or not

Do you know what happened in tunnel

Hate to admit this, but given the length of time between the fk being taken and the goal: I) we should have been more than capable of dealing with the situation and ii) cambran had more than enough time to get back on his feet having realised the game was continuing and put a challenge in

I was in the toilet so couldn’t comment on that. At the end of the day kettle isn’t medically qualified to say if a player is faking it or not if a player is down it’s his responsibility to check that player is ok not just ignore them
The ref should stop play if player seriously injured, or injured as result of foul by opposition. The ref and player were very close to each other, and the player seemed to be claiming a free kick. He certainly wasnt pointing out serious injury, and indeed looked fine seconds later.

Win on Monday and that 6 points from Lincoln, Sunderland and Accrington which is more than many were predicting. Then bring on a 10 game winning run to take us up!! Believe!

You'd best stay off that Tennents Super ( suitably chilled ).

Of course he is. It doesn’t fit the narrative.
Yes, because it's my f*****g narrative!!!

Lincoln, Sunderland and Accrington were seen as the 3 big games over the Easter period. AFTER the Northampton defeat many were predicting a point or 2 from these three games. We were talking about 2 points a game as a minimum for scraping into the playoffs and plenty were dismissing this as impossible. Yet, a win on Monday and we not only come through this with 6 points, but also a bit of fight in our bellies for the run in.

Yesterday was frustrating on many levels, but it's gone and we have to look forward. 8 games, 24 points to play for, and we need most of them. But absolutely no reason to give up.

He was screaming and shouting at ref.
I have looked again and again at the video and I cannot make out anything that is said nor can I see anything more than a couple of words being said by Brannagan whilst on his knees. "Screaming and shouting"? You do have an imagination.

However, it is plain to see that you have your viewpoint as a Sunderland supporter. To labour the point with you is pointless and I have no desire to waste further time on the matter.
