Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

Have we ever had 3 strikers at the club who have all scored 20 goals in the league we are in? Okay Taylor only hit 18 but close enough.

Let that sink in, we have 3 x 20 goal a season strikers at once.

Fitness and form aside that's some firepower and experience to call on.

Biggins , Aldridge and Hamilton start of 84/85.

if football manager is anything to go by then the registration window is closed at a later date from the transfer window.
We need someone who knows what they are talking about to settle this. I don't believe injured players will be deregistered. The Irish chap is probably too young to count towards the squad though.

According to EFL rules (https://www.efl.com/contentassets/b...a4503172/regulations-season-2021-22-final.pdf):

43.9.6 Changes to a Squad List may be made:
(a) during the period of a Transfer Window; and
(b) at other times only with the permission of The League.
Guidance
Changes inside a Transfer Window Changes to the Squad List can be made at any time during the Transfer Window. Clubs do not need to apply to the EFL for approval to make the change, Clubs only need to make the changes via iFAS. In order to be eligible for a League Match during the Winter Transfer Window, the Player (unless an exclusion applies) must be registered with the EFL and be included on the Squad List before the relevant League Match. The EFL recommends uploading the updated Squad List not less than 24 hours before the relevant League Match. Changes outside of a Transfer Window The League will only consider granting permission to make changes to the Squad List outside of a Transfer Window where:
 the Club’s current Squad List contains less than the maximum number of Players permitted to be included on the Squad List and the Club wishes to add an Out of Registration Player or another Player registered with the Club but not currently included on the Squad List, or
ď‚· in other truly exceptional circumstances.

I see Barry Fry has confirmed that we bid for Szmodics and spoke to KR. But after Dembele left they decided not to sell anyone else.
Fry also confirmed that Szmodics was 'very disappointed' that he didn't get the move!!
He’s coming in the summer with Nicky Cadden.

All arranged like the Sercombe deal from Exeter City.

from January the registration window reopens for you to select a 22 man squad for the remainder of the season.

Yes I know that, but none of us have worked out how there was space in the squad for Baldock. Someone will know I'm sure.

"43.9.7 The League will publish each Club’s Squad List and a list of all other Contract Players eligible to participate in League Matches but are not included on the Squad List, on the League’s official website within 7 days of the closing of a Transfer Window. "

So we should have official confirmation soon

Again, I'm going to come over all Mr. Negative......but also feel the need to point out that while the two Sams have been twenty goal strikers at this level in the past - they have scored 12 (Baldock) and 13 (Winnall) league goals in the last five years total (i.e. from 17/18 to 21/22 inclusive).

Now the Championship is a way, way tougher place to score goals than League One (Matty T only managed 7 in 67 games when he was there; Clarke-Harris scored 31 goals for Posh last year.....he's only managed 5 this season)

But we are still rather relying on the old notion that form is temporary, class is permanent with Baldock.

Again, not saying that it's a bad signing - he could turn out to be awesome, and the price tag is certainly attractive - but I just think I would have been more excited if, given that he's 32 years old, his goalscoring exploits were not five years in the past......

Agyei, Cooper and Thorniley out of the squad.
Brown, Browne and Baldock in.
Smythe doesn’t need to be registered due to his age.

Gorrin taken out of the squad as out injured for the rest of the season would leave space for one more

Also, at this point, I don't think I would want to sign Brandon Barker unless we were able to terminate Nathan Holland (or possibly Gavin Whyte's) loan spell.

By my reckoning, we currently have seven players who can fill the wide forward positions to a League One standard or better (Sykes, Browne, Holland, Whyte, Williams, Henry, Bodin.......I'm not even including Forde, even though that was his position when we signed him).

Based on his average performance in yellow, I'm not certain I could say that Barker is definitively better than any of those seven. He's more talented than Williams, sure, but doesn't work as hard and is less consistent. He's maybe slightly more mercurial than Nathan Holland but Holland's goalscoring rate for us is better......and for me, the difference between the two of them is not big enough that I'd want to carry an additional (probably pretty significant) wage to also add Barker.
If everyone's fit and firing, then Barker definitely doesn't get in the team ahead of Browne or this season's version of Sykes (or Gavin Whyte, if he ever returns to the form of his previous spell with us)

If we do have another spot in the squad, we should be looking at either OOC defenders or defensive midfielders........
