Home Match Day Thread 05/03/2022 L1: OUFC v Burton Albion

Best 45 minutes of footie from an Oxford side for many many years. All good, but McNally 😲 He'll be a Premiership player in the not too distant future
Need to sign him on a long contact so as to get a decent return if and when we sell him.

You chose poorly!

First half was an epic performance (up until injury time at least). Second half was a bit of a non-event as a result!

McNally was utterly brilliant. Now I'm wondering who's the next centre half we have lined up. Because our scouting network just seems to be able to dig up a rolling succession of outstanding prospects.
I worded that poorly! I mostly saw the first half and all the goals, and although I had the second half on I barely saw any of it because I was busy - hence the "half watched the second half". In the end not fussed about missing what I did!

Also agree about McNally! I didn't know what to think his first few games but he's turned very quickly into a phenomenal centre back at this level.

Extraordinary first half, rather flat second. Some great performances and some ordinary. What matters is, a win, 3 points and +3 goal difference.
Now sitting at home, in the warm with a glass of fizz and a curry for later! Happy days.
I think if we hadn’t conceded before ht we might have pushed on but it would have been awful to have ended the game on the back foot if we’d let another in. I thought we defended better today, lots of good tackles and headers. We still look dodgy down the sides (after all we don’t have full backs!) but the centre backs were great and we made Burton look like mugs, which I assume from their position they aren’t.

That was a Championship standard performance today. Granted, Burton weren’t very good but our precision crossing and shooting was pretty jaw dropping.

We’ve come a long way from the days of Phil Trainer and Alex Jeannin and should savour such performances . Exquisite football.

MOTM of course McNally . A Formula 1 giraffe.

Mark Sykes is some player, midweek proved how much we miss him.
If he continues this seasons form, must be in Kennys mind for the future.

Would have been nice to add a couple more bit can't grumble too much, that was a fantastic first half. Despite the fact we've got about 18 wingers this winger-free formation looks the way to go. We need the extra centre back in there and Taylor and Baldock is a great partnership at this level, they look like they've been playing together for years. Having a centre back able to carry the ball out is a real weapon as well as teams don't know how to deal with it, it created absolute havoc when McNally and Long did it today.

Baldock would likely have walked man on the match had he stayed on, I expected him to be decent but he looks a class above and I suspect he would have done better with the chance Winnall had. He is well going to be released come end of May.

Great hit by Whyte ans nice to see him get off the mark, hopefully that gives him some confidence. There were still several occasions where he turned back today when you want him charging towards goal putting defenders on the back foot.

Also, McNally. Christ.

Stevens had no chance with their goal. Gavin Whyte switched off before their goalscorer got the ball and was therefore too late to be able to close him down. It was a good strike, curling away from Stevens so as said no chance for him.
