'Insanity is signing all the same players that you had last season that failed to make the League 1 playoffs and expecting a different - and better - result' - Albert Einstein

Meh, if we signed all the same players as last season, but just replaced McNally, Hanson, Winnall, Williams & Holland with another topnotch CB, two top quality full backs, another solid defensive midfielder and a pacy, exciting forward/winger......then I'd be pretty confident going into the season. We were, after all, pretty good for the most part last year.

Gavin Whyte wasn't amazing last year (especially when he got anywhere near the goal with the ball at his feet), but he's certainly good enough to be a squad player for a League One promotion team. Herbie Kane would be as well, as long as we didn't expect him to play at the base of midfield.......not that I've heard we're likely to sign him again. If we don't, we need to replace him with like-for-like as well.

We've just got to nail those new signings......which is why we're all on tenterhooks waiting......

Some of the people and comments on this thread!!!
I’ll predict we’ll make 5 signings before Derby and about 8 in total. With a couple in next week or so.

If those 8 included Stuart Findlay, young Irish defender (Balmer?), Nicky Cadden (have to get him eventually!), top class replacement for Kane (Liam Walsh?), Jodi Jones, first team ready RW (Whyte?), Dane Scarlett and maybe a leftfield wildcard player from a higher league then I think our squad will be looking pretty good.

Where do you predict us to finish this season Scotch? If you asked me now, I would guess 15th.

We won't get all them! I'm sure some signings will be young Irish lads or reserves, but hopefully there will be two or three top guys.

I think if we do not sign anyone we are going to struggle and could finish anywhere from 24th to maybe 1st at a push

But if we sign some very good players maybe we could finish as high as first, with 24th being worst case scenario
There is more chance of Putin going on a gay pride parade in Brighton singing "I am what I am" than this squad finishing first without signing anyone.

I suppose we could also end up with anything between 0 and 138 points quite good I suppose

We are better than that and the real signings haven't started yet. It seems much quieter this year with ITK and Karl seems quiet we are really going to go for it or it's going to be just a decent squad. I feel be need a mixture of players in the mid 20s age group and no more older players we seem very reliant and players that are injury prone. We don't want the usual how unlucky we are with injuries. There are some very strong sides this year and we don't want to many bad runs in the season .Let's hope we make some great signings soon ,please

Why don't you think we'd get the players I mentioned?
Findlay sounds a done deal.
We've been fishing the Irish leagues for a long time and have a very good track record there.
Karl has said several times that we're after a left back and I know Cadden is a little tongue in cheek but certainly not out of our reach.
Jodi Jones is already training with us and a cheap option.
Whyte is not going to be in Cardiffs plans, loves the club and has the potential to be very good if he practices shooting!
Scarlett has been talked of for a while and fits much of our thinking.
A midfielder like Kane or Walsh is needed and won't be unaffordable.
Wildcard option - it is Karl after all so a gamble is guaranteed!!

All within our budget, all potentially available, all fit in nicely with our style.

I’d be happy with GW back. Great provider of goals even though he doesn’t score many.
Can‘t help thinking we need another goalkeeper, a defender of course and of course maybe another midfielder.
The club finances should be looking healthy after the last two years
Last two years including 2020/2021 when our income from ticket sales was £0? What am I missing?

Findlay has hardly played in the USA, out of interest, does anyone know the reasons i.e injury, form, slept with coaches wife etc?

Well you describe a best case scenario, being a positive person. It probably wont be quite that good but it should be decent, and hopefully we'll discover an unknown gem.
