Transfer News 2022/23 Season Incoming Transfers and a few other things

We are light years from the playoffs. We look like we are going to be languishing mid table at best.

The only way to change that is to bring in some real quality, and KR has had plenty of time this window. We are just not able to attract the players he’s targeting. Awful window so far!
Based on opinion. Let’s look at stats - I’m not a stat freak by any means but it should be part of this discussion.

KR averages 1.6 points a game at Oxford - 74 points a season. Since 2011/12 season, that would’ve got you a play off place 9 times out of 11. The 2 failures to do so were last season and the unfinished Covid-hit season (hence why I did 11 seasons; 10 complete, 1 incomplete). A couple of contentious ones in there i.e. could be decided by goal difference but as an average, he’s consistently achieving enough points. He’s upheld that average losing at least one top player every year that he’s had to replace/adapt the system to accommodate. While a play off finish isn’t a promotion, it’s a huge amount closer than a mid table languish!! Then you have the cosmetic bits - good style of play, very marketable, bonds with fans/community and loyal.

Admittedly, as the competition grows and big clubs continue to spend and raise the standard, the points hauls grow and he’s got to push his ceiling this year - that’s a fact. We need to get going in the transfer market that’s also a fact. But there isn’t much evidence that any side assembled by KR will finish in mid table.

You're welcome, took me a little while to work it out myself😂

Thanks for AR. But who was the young lad I'm thinking of, it was a cold frosty night against a young Spurs side, and he had a blinder.

I fully agree with give them a go, remember how Baptiste took off, he was flying, after a spell at Hampton and Richmond I think. I just worry that unless they have that season under their belt, of playing week in and week out, and feel they belong in a squad, then its a huge step up to even conference football looking at the standard in that league at the moment.
Not sure , Joel Cooper got two goals last season but back in 2018 Whyte and Browne played. Armani Little played the whole match so might have been him ?

Nothing but positive comments about Findley from the Philadelphia fans! As some say, take this with a pinch of salt; but the top-end of the MLS, is most definitely stronger than League One!

I think we’ve got ourselves a quality player here, and I really hope that at OUFC, he can finally fulfil his potential!

Please tell me you’re joking!? A fee has been agreed, and he’s on his way to us a sign the contract! It’s done. He’s coming to us.

Some people will look out the window, and not believe it’s raining, until they’re soaking wet!

Do I understand you correctly, MY? If you sign a player towards the middle or end of one season who, because he needs to recover from injury, is designed for the year after, that doesn't count as a signing? It seems pretty forward thinking to me. And if you have players who are out of contract at the end of the season, but decide to resign (no, not like BoJo) for a year or two more, that doesn't count either as a signing. So, presumably, if Whyte comes back to us, that also doesn't count, because he was with us last year?

Talk about glass half empty, and you call yourself "mellow"?
Interesting, because I can't believe that people would call these signings when we're talking about this window. I can almost see Browne, although we did play him last season (apparently too early and for too long hence him getting injured again, but that's another discussion). I definitely wouldn't count the likes of Bodin as new signings as they were already contracted to the club. This is the first window I can ever recall that being spun as a signing.

Ciaron Brown is a new signing because a month or so ago he was contracted to Cardiff and now he's with us. WHyte would be a new signing although I'd hope we're looking at a bit better to be honest.

So, players needed and possible names.

Left Back Cadden back in the frame or PL u21 (Dom Thompson from Brentford?)
Centre Back Findley I think, or Danny Wilson definite, plus Balmer or Taol from Ireland?
Central Midfield Tyler Morton plus championship player (thought Liam Walsh before he got injured)
Wingers Jodi Jones, Gavin Whyte, plus maybe one more established winger and a potential PL loanee?
Striker Dane Scarlett?
Wildcard There's always one!

Obviously anything can still happen but there's some real talent there which will create a well balanced squad.

I’d be stunned if we signed Dane Scarlett with our current strikers already at the club. Spurs will want him to play a certain amount of fixtures when he goes out on loan. Can’t see it personally.

Well there is talk of us hijacking the Cadden to Barnsley deal.... So it can happen both ways.

Hanson, Cooper and Winnall hardly count? They started what less than 10 between them.
Smyth, Browne and Goodrham are new players for the first team squad I would have thought?
When we went up with MAPP he specifically said that he wanted to reduce numbers bit have quality.
Think Hanson and Winnall would count in terms of the salaries they were on and money freed up.

Spurs will also want him to go to a club where he'll be looked after and where they play decent football. I doubt he's ready to start in the Championship, and we have one of the better records in the EFL for player development. Absolutely no reason why it couldn't happen.
