Home Match Day Thread 30/04/2022 L1: OUFC v Doncaster

I don't think you can say the players had a lack of effort. Golding, Long, Mcnally, Williams, Seddon, Mcguane, Brannagan, Bodin, Browne and Taylor all had decent games. Stevens should of saved their goal, Whyte might aswell of stayed on the beach is the only negatives. That Williams shot that hit the post, if that went in the game would of been different.

Felt like a pre season friendly and even Karl in his interview was suggesting he was using it like one assessing players.
Still they could have played better, sorry there just didn’t seem enough effort.

Some players were trying brannagan was long ,
And McNally were Golding definitely was Taylor soso some players were on the beach they deserved to be

Don't think you can judge our performance today on the fact we had nothing to play for. It felt like a pre season friendly on and off the pitch.
You put the yellow shirt on, surely you go out to win a game, or did they and still played as they did?

Give it a rest!

These players have barely had a proper break for 3 seasons, have been through long periods where they've been isolating from friends and family, have played through injury and illness and have given everything to get us this far. Ultimately it wasn't enough and you could see a few running on empty today. But they still went out and performed against a Doncaster side who had a bit of pride and fight in them.

Today is not the day for cheap negative horseshit!

I know I’m going to get shouted down about those but what about the other 23 League one clubs? Especially the 7 clubs above us, haven’t they had the same as this poster claims?
Unfortunately today wasn’t a great game but nothing to play for possibly maybe this is the reason why today was a lacklustre performance and would have thought playing to finish with a win would have been the pleasing anout today irrespective of not making the playoffs.
Doncaster weren’t a great side but they gave us a run for our money m.
We could and should have one that but the atmosphere was quite flat even for and 8.5k approx home support.
But next season is 3 months away time to recoup bring in the transfers we require for a promotion push possibly a top two if the board back KR ( if he is still here going by rumours started by some ) with a better budget to get thin the players he requires.

The other 7 clubs above us had something to play for though. Doncaster while may have already been relegated due to their poor form during the first half of the season have kicked on and probably would of avoided the drop with another few games. They beat Burton, drew away at Shrewsbury and narrowly were defeated by Bolton. Let's not be too upset over a draw in a dead rubber.

I’m not upset but would have thought of of maybe a bit more commitment still

The board will back the manager. The question is whether the manager is capable of using that backing to achieve the goal*.

* Promotion next season, requirement stated by A Bakrie last season.
I know that and so do you and a few others but some don’t seem to think so.

So has every other f*****g team, poor today.

All teams have been through the same s**t, injuries, covid, games Saturday/Tuesday etc.

Poor finish to the season today.

Most teams weren't involved in back to back playoffs which significantly reduced time away from the game. But that aside, we weren't particularly poor today.

We were poor today.

Not the best way to encourage fans back. Today summed our season e.g. poor finish

We were. I know you err on the side of positivity but there's no way you can't say we didn't look disjointed. I don't see how you can use the play offs from a year ago and before to justify our poor performance today. Starting a RB at CB, a 17 year old at CB on his debut, a formation we've only looked any good in when Baldock has been in, and not having Kane in fine - but don't say today we didn't play well due to the last 2 years.

After an inconsistent season today was the chance to give a decent send off for the fans. For me and the people I sit with it was fine because there was nothing riding on the game and it felt very preseason to us, we could have a drink and a laugh, but the performance itself was flat. It summed up our season in a nutshell.

Were you there ? God help you if you don’t think that performance was anything other than poor, really poor. Over hit passes, under hit passes, awful first touches from countless players, very little creativity and just a generally lame and lacklustre performance. We all support Oxford but your defence of the very often indefensible is just laughable.

There was plenty to encourage fans back. The players spending time with so many fans, giving away shirts etc. Seeing a couple of promising youth players coming through etc.

The fact that the first game in 3 years that didn't really matter was a little flat would have little bearing on attendance.

And yes, in answer to @jal I do have a more positive outlook than some. I'm not blaming today or events of two years ago, but am saying that one below par game after everything is excusable. There have been people saying that players weren't trying or didn't care, and that simply rubbish.

And as for @dickwalton1964 showing up with his usual negativity. I was there. One of more than 9000 for a game you said only 5/6000 would bother with!

We all do support Oxford, but sadly some have lost sight of why!
