Is that the old chairman or the new chairman?
How on earth could it have got to that stage? It transpires that the Defoe deal was done on Thursday. However, on Friday the chairman refused to sign it off. £6,000 per week was the wage and that figure is what the chairman refused to agree to.
£24 to 30k per month for possibly 5 to 10 goals before the end of the season... I can see why the chairman had his doubts. It transpires that the Defoe deal was done on Thursday. Or put it another way, Defoe asked for £6k a week and the club said no!How on earth could it have got to that stage?
Then how was the deal “done”?Or put it another way, Defoe asked for £6k a week and the club said no!

From what KR says in interviews, the board are involved in the transfer process. That would suggest somebody had a reality check before sending the fax through. Then how was the deal “done”?

Glad he did… 6k a week for a 40 year old isn’t worth it in my eyes. Not sustainable in this league. It transpires that the Defoe deal was done on Thursday. However, on Friday the chairman refused to sign it off. £6,000 per week was the wage and that figure is what the chairman refused to agree to.

Surely whomever is negotiating knows the limits under which they are operating. What a waste of everyone’s time.‘Done’ as in agreed in principle between Defoe, his agent and KR.
And that's being generous. He's only played 2 games for Rangers this season scoring 0, and scored 4 in 15 league games last season. A player at his age can fall off at any point, so there's no financial sense in taking that risk.£24 to 30k per month for possibly 5 to 10 goals before the end of the season... We are not that sort of club. Well we haven't been over the last few years. Paying that sort of wage sets a precedent that surely can't be sustainable.
And what has that got us? Admittedly, I'd rather Defoe was getting that wage than Hanson but two wrongs don't make a right. But think of the extra bums on the seats, shirt sales, sponsorship etc. We're paying Hanson 5k a week.
