It's again down to the fact that we're still behind on our transfer business.

Not unreasonably, KR clearly felt that Matty T and Sam Long could do with not playing midweek, and resting up in preparation for Saturday. But as we have noone else in the squad that can play either of those positions, we're having to field an attacking midfielder and a 17 year-old CB instead.

A balanced and complete squad would have two players for every position so that we can rest players when we need to, and still field an XI with everyone comfortable in their positions. But we aren't there yet, and we're getting battered as a result.

It's not the end of the world - sadly the league cup just isn't that important any more - but it is as clear a demonstration as you could ask for as to how much the squad is still lacking.
The simple fact is that we shouldn't be behind putting a squad together for a season that started the best part of 2 weeks ago. Equally we shouldnt be playing players out of place and players who don't have the experience or skillset for a supposed promotion chasing squad
Will we still be using the same excuses weeks from now, or will it dawn on some that playing catch up isnt something conducive to a promotion push.

Can't watch the game (thanks, EFL!) so just listening.

But I feel like I've been hearing Gorrin's name a lot second half. And not just because he's given the ball away again (as it often was in the first half!). Maybe starting to get used to the pace of things again?

(obviously scoring a goal with your backside helps as well......)
